Doubt Jerry made the 2nd round pick all his own. Wade & Jason Garrett might have really wanted this TE instead of a WR in the 2nd round. Just doesn't make sense to me. Why trade Fasano who at least familiar with our offense for another TE who now must come in & learn the whole system. Bennet's got real good size (just like Witten) but his speed doesn't appear to be that great. Don't understand this pick at all; not happy with it.

We will go nowhere with this strategy of overpaying ageing starters and drafting backups. This is the mid-90s all over again as Jerry returns to his roots without a strong football guy to reign him in.

Guys like Manningham and Doucett must be really low on the Cowboys board. We really needed to address wide receiver in some form today. I don't understand why we didn't.

I had no problem with the first two picks, but Jerry essentially replaced traded a second round pick for a fourth round by doing this. Why not just keep Fasano??????

And you base this on a selection that emulates a strategy we used when he had a "strong football guy to reign him in?"

Obvious that the Dallas draft board looked nothing like most analysts' boards. Giving away your tight tend (under contract for very little) for a 4th round pick and then drafting a guy in the 2nd to play tight end smells of confusion.

I'm going out on a 7" limb here, but I believe guys like Justin King, Dan Connor, and Early Doucet have more productive careers than a tight end backing up an all-pro.

So excited that the old Jerry with apparent help from Larry Lacewell is back in charge of the draft room.

All the years of work Parcells did to turn this team around are getting thrown away right before our eyes. We're gonna have a 1-2 year max window to take the Super Bowl now with our aging receivers, unless Jerry has some spectacular trade for RW (and some other young STARTERS) in the works.

Either way, why the hell would u trade Fasano and then bring in another TE in the 2nd round? That is RIDICULOUS! The city of Dallas is plagued with incompetent owners who want to win, but just don't have to mindset to make the right personnel decisions. Heck, I would've given Parcells the VP role to get him to stay even. Screw this.

there was no good 2nd round WR talent to draft
Yep. We could have reached for Doucet or Manningham, (who we may be able to pick up in the third or fourth) Instead we chose to select a talented player that will have a positive impact in our running and passing game imo.

Draft ain't over yet, folks. Let's not hurl ourselves off a cliff yet.

I'm underwhelmed by this draft. another year goes by without a young wideout. I thought Jerry could do much more with 2 #1's than he did.
that being said, while I know Goose Gosselin is ripped in here, he had Jenkins at 15, Jones at 21, and Bennett at 46 in his top 100. Goose as he's stated does not scout players but develops his list from speaking to scouts and front office personnel and forms a consensus. Jerry didn't reach today and got good value for his picks.
he coulda got better by taking Mendenhall, but hey its Jerry we're talking about here.

You do realize that Roy Williams is a UFA next year and we have a pretty good shot at landing him, right?

Spot on, exactly. You don't draft players to fill backup positions, you draft for starters. Even still, I could live with the first round choices, but the second round pick is a real head scratcher.

If you would have told me we would have walked away with Jenkins and jones in the first i would have been happy.

One thing that i know for certain is that I am going to make it a tradition to stay away from this board in particular around draft time. its the same crap as last year except its a whole bunch of people acting like Edunce.

Bennett was one of the best players available only behind Jamaal Charles, Kevin Smith, and Dan Conner

PUHLEASE!!!!!! Jerry himself admitted that Mendenhall was rated ON THEIR OWN BOARD higher than Jones, yet he opts for stupid and takes the Hog.

To top ot off he trades away TWO PLAYERS for a 4th round pick (one of which was a 2nd round pick only two freaking years ago) and in his infinite wisdom replaces one of them with yet ANOTHER 2nd round pick!!!!!!
That is beyond stupid I don't care what way you try to spin it. At this point Bennet is two years behind Fasano in development.

We made ZERO progress forward. In fact we took a step back. I didn't think there was any way Jerry could screw this up, yet in a mater of 24 hours he's downgraded one position. Hamstrung us (in the event of an injury) at another and he gave up draft picks to do it!

I typically try to defend Jerry, but this beyond dumb. When, at the end of day 1, you start wishing for the good ol' days of Larry Lacewell, there's a problem.
