Seems like the media is responsible for a lot of the Jerry hate. If he goes for the big splash, he's loved by fans & media for having the balls to pull the trigger on a game changer, but then he's ridiculed for overpaying his players.

When there was talk about him signing Asomugha, there was criticism of his lack of discipline, and inability to focus on true needs like safety and DE.
But when Philly signed Asomugha, Jenkins, and the rest of their FA's, Jerry is ridiculed for not going after any of the shiny players.

Somehow we "lost" free agency as if there's a trophy handed out to the perceived "winner" of free agency. Im a huge Mavs fan, and this reminds me so much of the Miami Heat situation. They won free agency hands down, and they are a very good team. But they weren't the best TEAM.

Our O-Line situation looked atrocious by the end of last year, and the Doug Free situation just compounded that. Jerry was able to re-sign him, and land arguably the best OL in the draft. We've also re-signed Kosier and added a few young prospects as well.

Leadership was crap, so we fired our "coach" and upgraded to a coach with a no nonsense style.

Defense was terrible, so we fired our D-Coordinator, and upgraded to someone who we all believe can take advantage of some of the talent on our roster.

Our star WR is in need of discipline and needs someone to crack the whip. We can check that off our to do list as well.

Injuries were a major concern, and we signed a legendary conditioning coach.

My point is, all of these small wins on Jerry's end, have a very good chance of making a significant impact in the long run. There's much more to football than just star power, and big high dollar names. Jerry is assembling a team, and I believe he's leaning on Garrett A LOT to help him turn this thing around.

We sign a safety or two, tie up any loose ends, and I'm very confident that we will be a solid competing force in the NFC. And after what we saw last season, that's really all we should hope for right now. That would be a good indicator of what to expect moving forward.

Screw Philly, and who they're signing. I LOVE what our team is doing. It's not perfect by any means, but its improvement.

I guess I do like the overall direction they are going. Emphasis on coaching and seemingly, drafting recently. The past two off seasons, post T.O, there has been a change here. Cutting people that aren't contributing, producing, cancers, overpaid players regardless of their status.

I like it. I will have to get use to the conservative cowboys but with three good coaching additions and discipline being installed/strong work ethic is awesome, and something Wade seemed to lack.

We are getting younger as a team, not slashing in free agency (even though I love free agency) and being responsible. I think it will help overall even if it doesnt immediately impact this season.

We need a safety. Then, I'll start to get optimistic.

2 weeks ago we needed A LOT more than a safety. moving in the right direction. I'll be shocked if we don't sign one.

This a really good post and a nice reminder of what the team does have going for it.

This definitely takes some of the 'sting' away from the Asomugha and Jenkins situations.

I don't like it when Jerry Jones goes after the big name players and winds up overpaying for them. I'd rather him follow a more disciplined road of going after mid-level vets ... and get lots of them. It's all about value and return of investment.

Injuries are a big part of the game, and depth is one of the most important aspects of the game. Better to have 2 to 3 to 4 "good" players at a certain position than 1 superstar and garbage behind him.

I'm happy he didn't overspend for Nnamdi. $10 mil a year can get us several mid-level vets at numerous positions.

Nice post....

We sign a FA to a big contract.....Jerry will be bashed next year because we have no cap money.

If he doesnt make a splash....its because he spent all his money on the stadium and has no money left to spend.

go figure

I think the Boys are playing the FA the right way. Teams needed to reach the cap floor.....We witnessed some stupid contracts out there for average players

The Free Safety pool wasnt all that great....alot of them out there....Weddle gets 8 mil a year....enough said ......the rest are all comparable....wait it out...let their demands fall.

I would of loved to keep Bowens.....liked the kid alot....but that contract? No way I would pay that.

Excellent post. Couldn't agree more. I love how everything has been handled.

This argument hinges on how well the secondary and OL hold up this year, specifically safety and right guard, known areas of need left unaddressed. If Elam, Holland or Costa can fill in adequately then Jerry looks like a genius,,, otherwise, well...

While I might otherwise agree with the OP's sentiments, my view of that line of thinking -- however informative and persuasive as it may be -- is that it is nowhere near as entertaining as the toes-over-the-ledge prophecies of utter doom and desolation or the Girl-Scout-troop-on-an-out-of-control-rollercoaster hysterics of other less sensible posts.

So please let's get back to the panicked screaming of a babysitter in a John Carpenter movie. It's much more fun (and I'm running out of metaphors and hyphenated adjectives).

Of course he can't win.......different people with different opinions.

I don't know why anyone would expect that everyone have the same idea regarding what Jerry should do.

And on the flip side, he can't really lose either because he's always going to get applauded by a segment of the people who were cheering for him to make the move he eventually made.

Drafting basically all offensive players then signing your own crappy players on a defense that gave up a record number of points is a good off season??? Really???

Look at the key positions for the Eagles

QB - free agent
LT - free agent
DE - free agent (Babin)
DT/DE - free agent (C. Jenkins)
CB - free agent
CB - trade
CB - free agent

What this tells me is that the Eagles are having difficulty developing these key positions on their own and instead need to make trades and FA pickups in order to do so.

In other words, I question their coach at some spots.

It can work. Dallas got by on the O-Line with FA's and trades for awhile. But, the knock was 'they can't develop O-Linemen.' Funny, we never hear them knock Philly for not being able to develop corners.

2nd pick was a linebacker, and we hit positions of need in the draft.
I guess you missed the part of removing the coach/defensive coordinator.
i mean what would you do differently?
