I think we have some quality people involved in the draft. I give Jerry credit for hiring good people and in many cases listening to them as opposed to just grabbing players who catches his eye.

Jerry is an easy target and a fun target because of his approach to running the team but he isn't alone in that war room. Besides I think they have done a pretty decent job barring a few picks as of late. I didn't agree with the 2016 draft but it did net us Dak and Zeke. The hill pick was dumb and of course now we can say the Jaylon pick but in 2018 we thought it was great. he took a chance and backfired. the pick wasn't as bad as the extension. Playing monday morning QB 5 years later is easy for me to do though.

It is up to Jerry, the fact he will listen and even take the advice says a lot. If Jerry was so wrapped up in his own opinion he could just blow people off.

No but players did not draft themselves. Jerry job should be to see to it the coaching staff as the players to win and the coaches job to take the talent and win.

Jerry gets no credit because of the structure of his organization. We don’t know who does what. I just know prior to McClay coming in they had issues with personnel. Jerry didn’t just wake up one day learning how to draft lol. I’ll give Jerry credit for hiring the right guys.

I have read many times that McClay is the 3rd most powerful man in the organization behind on Jerry and Stephen. The simple fact that Jerry hired him and has confidence in him as well as listen to him is big. As for the power structure, I think Dallas has always been a bit different. Tex was GM but Tex did not really go out and draft players, that was the role of Gil Brandt. Tex was a promoter of the Cowboys and when it came to personnel he listened to what Gil had to say.

If he wants to get credit thats fine, but these last two drafts are MM and his staff working with McClay and his. I think Jerry has the pleasure of making the final decision, but he is listening to what these coaches want.

they are doing the same with MM , so anything that went wrong the last 18months all on MM but any of the positives is mike is clueless and his assistants get the credit..

No. McClay is doing all the footwork of a GM but does not have the authority of one. He can tell Jerry that TJ Watt is a better player than Taco, but Jerry still has to have the football sense to make the call and he does not. He goes with whoever in the war room makes the most persuasive sales pitch.

I agree. I will say as long as Jerry hold the title of GM fans will hold him accountable. I agree McClay by and large in the de facto GM at least in terms of personnel. HC that is on Jerry. One thing I have always looked to do is be fair in blame and credit. If Jerry does something I think it wrong I have no issue to casting blame but by the same token I have no issue with handing out credit.
