Jerry Jones: Greg Hardy remains one of Cowboys’ best defensive players

“Well, he’s been either the first or second in the last five or six games grading out, so he’s playing pretty well,” Jones said. “What we’re not seeing, of course, is those sacks that bring it up. But he’s a force to deal with out there.

“What we’d always hoped is that good players would cause him to load up and somebody else gets a chance to make some plays, and I think we saw a little bit of that tonight especially early on.”

Jones is referring to the breakout game by second-year defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence on Monday. Lawrence had two in the first three plays, and passed Hardy for the team lead in sacks with five.

Hardy has 4.5 sacks so far this season.

Those are the type of signature plays expected by Hardy, though, who made only one real splash play against the Commanders when he wrapped up running back Matt Jones for a 4-yard loss just before the 2-minute warning in the first half.

Hardy wasn’t sighted much after that even though he played more snaps (51 of 65) than any other Cowboys’ defensive linemen.
