There were more than a few snickers last November when the owner of the Dallas Cowboys gave himself a vote of confidence for his work as the general manager, but it is Jones who is getting ready to laugh now.

Maybe it is his ego; maybe it is because he honestly feels that he is the best man for the job, but for what ever the reason Jerry Jones continued to serve as the general manager of the Dallas Cowboys despite a track record that even Jones admits would have caused him to fire any other employee. Right or wrong, that is Jones prerogative. Still it took the NFL world by storm last season when Jerry, the owner, told the media that Jerry, the GM, was doing the best work of his tenure in the National Football League.

"The facts are I really do think, the way things have rolled out, I'm getting to do some of the best work that I've done, relatively speaking in my career, over these last several years." - Jerry Jones

I don't see that this article is debatable. It's just talking about this year
and the acquisition of Red a few years ago.

Jerry deserves a lot of the blame for what has gone wrong the past 18 years. Likewise he deserves a lot of credit for the Cowboys' current success. His hiring of Garrett now looks like a very good move on his part, and is beginning to pay dividends. Four of our past five 1st round draft picks are Pro Bowlers this year. He deserves some credit for that as well.

This thread won't get lots of run because many still refuse to give him an iota of credit but I totally agree. He and Stephen have been dialed in lately.

Yeah, I guess he finally stopped listening to the great Larry Lacewell.

I have similar thoughts. I believe Jerry has for the most part, listened to his advisors but would give Lacewell and himself at times, way too much leeway. We know he has always been impulsive and likes to roll the dice from time to time.
It just seems as though now, he is buying into a more conservative approach. Whether or not Garrett is the one selling him on it is anyones guess. Personally I think it is a combination of Garrett and others selling him on their plan, stinging from failed gambles in the past, plus after years of him banging his head on the wall and stumbling all over himself, he may have learned a few things! Could happen! lol

Just glad those in the room talked him out of Manziel. Seems the power pendulum has shifted, and that's a good thing.

IDK, but I suspect that was just Jerry talking out nonsense. I'm certain JF was on the minds in many NFL rooms but I don't think Johnnie was really on the table at all.

I would hold off on any executive consideration until the team enjoys a year not handcuffed by dead money on the cap. I do give him credit for making the sensible move in drafting Zack Martin, and avoiding the circus of Johnny "Next Year, I'll Be Serious" Manziel.
