Jerry Jones is probably salty at MM, and Payton would never come here

I'm pretty certain I have heard it spoken of before, that Dallas has a quality control department. I believe if it were me, I would have that group working overtime watching every game as the season progresses. Then I would have them gather up plays which seem unique to certain franchises.

My understanding is the playbook of every team is fairly similar. But then there are geniuses like Reid who devise plays which catch the defense out of position. Not the usual plays, but ones that are really creative.

Surely not the slow developing plays that allows even the lumbering defenses to catch up and stop them. Nor running these same plays each week as the league figures out what your tell is and stuffs your bubble screen for a four yard loss. Especially when you have an OC that will run that play a couple of times a week.

But I would surely examine the route trees, and see how other teams use the routes in combination to free up, or get separation. What is the "business as usual" at this juncture seems to struggle against finding open areas to exploit. I have lost faith in Moore and have for a couple of years. I don't see the brilliance in his play calling. Frankly, I would have celebrated if he were whisked off to be the head coach at his college a few years ago.

But one thing is for sure. The person hired to run the offense needs to be the decision of people other than some tottering old man trying to make the hero call every year so at some point he can say he led the team to a title. And his son, who probably sits at his desk all day cutting coupons, and dreaming about the day coming soon when he can eat at the early bird senior special at Denny's.

As they say, defense wins championships. But what is implied in that slogan is the team who wins, also has an offense that can score. "Let's see what the young guys can do" is a desire expressed over and over here.

We've seen what the combination of this WR corps, and an OC who is playing Dungeons and Dragons on Sundays and how it has turned out. My opinion is, wrecking the WR squad was an idea created by a drunken sailor. And frankly, since this came from the main decisions maker, I just insulted every sailor in this country. My apologies to the swabbies.
I believe we need more 30 yard slants. ; )

If MM makes the playoffs again it’ll be back to back years for us for the first time in a while. Obviously what happens there matters but him building a program that’s in the playoffs every year is important. I know “super bowl or bust” that’s true but you can’t win a super bowl if you aren’t in the dance.

the more bites you have at the apple the better your chances are at busting through. Let’s see how this season plays out but I see all the players echoing MM’s mantras and guys like Kearse and others glowingly endorsing him (more than the typical pc press stuff). I thought Mike was overrated big time in Green Bay but I feel he’s underrated here- the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

The last time a Cowboys HC took us to back to back playoff seasons was….Chan Gailey. The last time we made the playoffs in back to back seasons was 2006-2007 under Parcells (06) and Phillips (07). Under the same HC, it was 98-99 under Chan the man, lol.

Exactly. Super bowl or bust is the standard we set but we haven’t met it for a long long long time. I wanna see us be a program that consistently gets to the playoffs and plays winning football. Winning 10,11,12 games every year. If we can do that I think the super bowl will come.

Mike Mccarthy has done more with less, especially this year. I genuinely think offensively the FO got rid of all of the talent in hopes this season would be loss and he could usher in Payton. One thing Jerry Jones doesn't or fails to understand is that coaching is a fraternity. Quinn went up to Mccarthy personally and said if you want me gone, i'm gone...and he is essentially only still here because Mccarthy cares about winning.

Mike Mccarthy winning with way less talented than DQ with a stacked defense yet Jerry heaps all of the praises on DQ. DQ and Mccarthy know how Jerry is, and i'm positive Mccarthy has talked to Payton.
Jerry doesn't want an Elite coach which Mccarthy seems to be returning to form too...because then he gets zero credit. Jimmy Johnson is releasing a book and excerpts reveal that Jerry didn't meddle..he just wanted credit for doing nothing. We have two great coaches HC and DC

Look at how Mike Mccarthy answered question two years ago, as opposed to now. He came out and essentially made Jerry retract his statements regarding. When is the last time a HC of the Dallas made our owner do that regarding anything?

People forget that MM was screwed over by terrible drafting by the Packers in his later years..a problem we don't have.

You have an owner who doesn't like your HC and QB (he takes negotiation personal, and Dak doesn't really want to play the surrogate son role like a lot of players did).

SMH. If Jerry wanted to get rid of MM he wouldn't have to purposely sabotage his team and the entire 2022 football season. You are reading too much into this. The only real talent they got rid of on offense was Amari Cooper. That had nothing to do with sabotaging the season. Jerry made it clear last year that he was upset with Cooper about non football related items that caused Cooper to miss 2 games. Also, I think they felt Ceedee Lamb was the new #1 and that Cooper was not doing enough to earn that $20 million contract. Kind of like they were going after DLaw about his contract until they lost out on Randy Gregory. Cooper was strictly a salary cap manuever on a player they were unhappy with and one they felt wasn't earning his contract.

Btw, if Jerry did fire MM at the end of the season then I think it is more likely that Dan Quinn is the HC rather than Sean Payton. Jerry won't pony up the draft capital for Payton and Payton may want more control than Jerry would be willing to give.

Sean Payton is not coming to Dallas. There will be way more attractive offers for him to choose from. Also I dont think Quinn is going to leave his DC position at Dallas. Some people know their limits and I believe Dan knows his. He is a great DC but was not a very good HC. I dont believe he wants to try that again. When it's time for MM to leave unfortunately I see Moore getting the HC job which I dont think will end very well.

Why some of you think jerry doesn’t want to win at 80 with Barely years, or months or even days left to live is beyond me.

This is nonsense
I'm in this camp too. I think it's silly to assume Jerry doesn't want to win, or, would try to sabotage the team. He wants to win. A guy like him, that is full of arrogance, definitely wants to win. He just may not be the best at it in the GM position. lol

Bottom line, is the offense and the QB, Mike Mccarthys supposed forte, any better than when he got here? Worse? He needs to fix the freaking offense and manage Dak's limitations.

Like him. Teach Moore or take a bigger role in play calling would be an area of improvement

I wish Big Mac would have brought in a different OC. Although that may not have been an option when he was hired.

I often wonder what this offense could do in the hands of an OC with a much more creative scheme. This is Kellen Moore’s 4th year and although he’s not the worst OC in the league, he certainly can’t be called some boy genius. His offense still looks a lot like the Garrett years- vanilla and too predictable.

Only full season with dak 12-5 #1 scoring offsne? better sure with a healthy team.my gawd, you all that blind somehow you only see W-Ls and most of the record is without Dak and like 14-17 other players inured in and out of the lineup in 2020 and to start 2022 ,1 game missing in 2021

even 2020 the DC Offense with Dak was scoring like 33 PPG and while on roll had no defense (bottom 5 defense in the league, historically bad) but at the time they were also #1, so 20-21 #1 offense with Dak..
next busted narrative....

so far daks only played 2 games this year so let's see how that stretches out to the end of the year, the offense does NOT look the same for one changed players like a Rookie LT, NEW LG, NEW starting RT, let a lot of WRs go, added rookies etc. add in Rush plays 5 games, so its not the same but its not on Dak or MM , some on Moore sure,

Lets see how they gel with an extended look with Dak playing.

October 27, 2032: two CowboysZone thread titles -

Let's Get Sean Payton!

Jimmy's Only 89! Let's Get Him!

This is some straight up fantasy land type thinking.
Just bizarre, really.

Tale away the first second part. Who would have guessed the NFC west would be garbage an that DAL would clearly be better teams than the Buccaneers or Packers? We lucked into this, this wasn't some calculated plan.

You just nailed it with the bolded. I think Kellen Moore was forced onto McCarthy. McCarthy will never publicly say that but when our offense is playing as crappy as it is, you can't seriously tell me McCarthy wants to just sit back and let it happen without wanting to do something about it. The problem is Jerry wanting to keep Kellen Moore in there no matter if the Cowboys lose every game. If Jerry was to do something about Moore now, it would be like Jerry admitting he (Jerry) doesn't know what he's doing..

I’m sorry, but did the OP say MM was returning to an elite coach? Don’t you have to first be at a place before you can return to it?
