Jerry Jones has a lot of faults. He continuously makes errors on draft day and over pays players. Being disloyal is not one of them. Jerry Jones has been shown to be overly loyal to his players and reward them with contracts that do financial harm to the teams long term contract. What is Jay Ratliff's problem? Jerry Jones paid the man when he had two years left on his contract. He did not squat on his rights like he should have and paid the man for his past performance. Players love Jerry Jones as evidenced by his intro of Larry Allen.
With that said Jerry Jones should have a long talk with Ratliff in the next few days. It is clearly evident that Ratliff is trying to force is way out of Dallas, and I would not grant his request. If he goes on IR this year, I would carry him on the roster next year and PUP him again. Dallas would only save something like 1.3 million dollars by cutting him and his salary is guaranteed. I would hold on to him out of pure spite and show him that you have to honor your contract. If Ratliff truly wants to be free than he can give up his guaranteed salary, if not let him rot on the bench. He would only hurt is own ability to earn another contract. Jerry Jones should stop being nice with this guy and play a little hard ball. The bottom line should be Ratliff will either play for the Cowboys now or he will be on the sideline for another year and a half. Either way he still gets his money, so make his life miserable.
