Let's be real with ourselves Jerry Jones is the real problem in Dallas but make no mistake he's not going anywhere. The problem we have is that we don't have a coach or coaching staff good enough to overcome the dysfunction and nepotism in the front office. I don't know if Lincoln Riley or Harbaugh is that guy but it would be someone of that ilk that could come in and change the culture in Dallas.

The good thing is that this feels like before Bill Parcells was hired so maybe Jerry will hire someone that he is not comfortable with just to soothe the fans and media.

I have long accepted that Jerry is the main problem but I know Jerrys flaws can be worked around with decent coaching.

I am not even worried about jerry anymore because of that. But jerrys flaws AND BAD COACHING, is a nono.

If garret is gone I believe we have half of a decent chance to be competitive. I believe Jerry will suck it up and hire someone else that may bring more to the table.

You can’t work around his flaws. He botches the draft, makes stupid trades, and his presence tells the players that he - not the coach- is their real boss.

And I think that's our one true hope as fans. I think that's there will be an awful lot riding on that next head coaching hire. Perception and reality. I think many of our hopes are pinned to it. I know if I see a name who looks like a weaker-minded, yes man type, than the perception for me will be that nothing of consequence will change. But if I see a stronger name in that seat, it will give me some measure of hope that things can get turned around.

The length of the contract and money involved will also be a factor for me, because with a big contract comes big time clout. A puppet won't be making huge money and a guy with a huge contract will be here for a few years at least. If the next guy gets a big money deal, it will be a better sign to me than the guy getting some middle of the road, happy to be here, type of deal. That's another indicator that it's bad.

But that's down the road, right now I'm just focused on being certain that these guys who clearly can't do the job, will, in fact, be gone. All of them.

JJ is an issue. BUT hasn't he given Garrett everything he wanted? I haven't seen one personnel move that didn't fit into JG's plans or wasn't his kind of guy. The last several years I've seen Jerry take a step back. I just don't see how anyone can use it as an excuse for Garrett's struggles.

And yes Jerry is going nowhere which means not worth lamenting about him.

Yep. Not many realize or acknowledge that the environment he creates sets coaches, and ultimately the team, up to fail.

He is 100% the problem. Fix him and you fix the Cowboys.

To be fair past drafts have worked out and we dont know if this draft is botched. There is more than just the 1st rd and alot of the best players are found in the later rd.

To me cooper is out #1 pick at just 24 so we as fans should approach the draft as so. Then we move along to the 2nd round.

I bet Dallas picks a good player in the 2nd so then you look at it like we got cooper #1 [good player] #2 and so on.

I dont look at it as ruined botched or whatever.

Then there’s no point in discussing anything regarding the Cowboys because Jones is the only problem that matters. Everything else is insignificant, and we’ve got almost 25 years of failure to prove it.

Shrelock Holmes finally figured out Jerry is the problem. Only took 22 years but the mystery has finally been resolved for the millionth time. :muttley:

A good coach will butt heads with JJ and thus have a wrench in his cogs. JJ is constantly interfering with the team based on the fact its his team and this is not conductive to winning the big games in the NFL. With the quality of the 2016 team it was hard to fail and they did.

I disdain Garrett, but Jerry has failed to give Garrett the following:
  1. Garrett was not allowed to hire his own staff (Wade Phillips is the only other hc with that dubious distinction)
  2. Garrett has very little say about starting lineups (Jerry ensures the players he drafted start to prove that he didn't make a draft mistake)
  3. Garrett has very limited power over anything. As far as I can tell, Garrett is not in charge of anything but clock management and he's terrible at that. :)

Oh really? Worked out how? Hitting on a few high picks is not nearly enough to build a team. Just look at the roster. No chance we can compete with the Rams or Saints.

Cooper is a jag. A better player, Demarious Thomas, was traded for far less. Giving up a #1 for Cooper is a nightmare. Gruden is still laughing about it.

I've been knowing Jerry was a problem ever since he hugged Barry Switzer and said we did it our way baby. But the problem remains how do we win in spite of him.

PS you still mad about Dez going to the Saints aren't you? I'm tasting your tears for breakfast

Yep Jerry has shown that poker face over time with difference in contract coach and player wise.

I have even more hope because I mean let's be real, I dont believe we will run into another Garrett type situation. With the connection to the cowboys in the past and Jerry having this emotional connection and hiring him without head coaching exp etc.

Imo even promoting within Richard as HC wouldnt be as bad as the Garrett hire and reasoning behind it.

I hated the campo and wade Phillips hiring later on but the Garrett hiring didnt sit well with me from the beginning.

We shouldnt have any more of these emotional situations. Hopefully ever.

The recent drafts have been much better than just hitting on the high picks. They have drafted very well top to bottom in the past 5 drafts. Yeah there are a few misses but that happens to everyone. There are a number of good 3rd round and later picks in there and then yeah I think every single 1st or 2nd rounder going back to 2014 are playing significant time for this team (when healthy). I don’t know that the recent drafts can realistically be criticized. If they can draft that well in perpetuity we should do backflips.

The difference between Dallas and a team like the Rams is the QB, the coaching staff, and the aggressive signing of free agents at the right time (when you are on the doorstep of contention). The Cooper trade was a mistake, but I will say this, if you are going to make that mistake this is the year to do it as I don’t see anything in the draft in that 7-12 spot where that pick will be that knocks my socks off.

No, never mad about Dez. I've been waiting for this drama since April. That said, I don't mind if you believe I am mad. As a matter of fact, feel free to single me out for everything that gets you excited about Dez from here on out and I'll bust your chops whenever Dez doesn't look like 2012-2014 Dez. You good with that?
