#Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones joins New School NOW on @1053thefan. Listen: http://******/SJRWjZ @tunein

Jerry Jones on 105.3 The Fan said he had no comment on plaintiff attorney in NFL concussion suit calling him a "hard-***."
Jerry Jones on The Fan: "Boy, do I feel pressure because of the fact that we haven't met expectations."
Jerry Jones says he thinks Claiborne and Leary will be ready for the season opener, said he thought Spencer could go but would be limited.
Jerry Jones on Cowboys identity: "We need to be sounder on def. Protect the ball better on offense. What we need to do is win some games."
Jerry Jones much more reserved during interviews heading into this season. Garrett's "process" is rubbing off on everyone at Valley Ranch.
I really get the feeling Jerry Jones is trying his best not to be a distraction this year. How long will that last? First loss?
How excited is Jerry Jones for the Cowboys opener against the Giants on Sunday night? "I can't sleep. I popped up at 4:30 this morning."

Deep thoughts from 40-year-old mind of Jerry Jones: "What we need to do is win some games," he says when asked about identity on KRLD-FM.

Calvin Watkins ‏@calvinwatkins 4m
Jerry Jones said the team captains have been made and wouldn't reveal them.

Cut down on the stupid, pop warner-esque, drive killing penalties and you can add 2-3 more games in the "W" column. I hold my breath pre-snap............

A good cure for that would be big plays. I really hope we see more big plays and better starting field position. 88 yard drives that require 18 plays have been a problem for us.

We need to consistently run the football. If we can do that, we will be a very good football team. I do see tons of promise running to the left side.

I actually agree with this.. I know folks always wondered what this team's identity was, but I always thought it was big plays on offense. 2007 was a classic example of how I thought the offense was supposed to run. Big play down the field always seemed to get both the offense and the defense going. Seems they've been searching for the magic formula ever since. Had it a little bit the year when Miles broke out, but it's been sputtering for the most part.

I wonder if defenses have purposely taken the big play away from us b/c they know if we dink and dunk down the field that we'll eventually make a bonehead mistake (turnover/penalty).

If that was the case you would think we should be able to run the ball more, to force teams to bring those safties up.

Honestly, that's every team's philosophy on defense for the most part. Some teams have the personnel in place to do that and others don't. But most D coordinators know that if you can force the offense to dink, dunk and drive that the odds go up in their favor that the offense will commit a penalty or turnover.

I think Dallas' lack of players that can execute the big play has been our biggest problem. With how Dez broke out and Austin miraculously made it to the regular season healthy maybe our fortunes have changed. An injury to Dez or Austin takes us right back to the dink and dunk game, unfortunately.

while i agree with this, the reality is that you cant always count on the big play and a successful team will need to develop the ability to put together 'grind it out' long drives that chew up time

teams have done this to us for years, take away our big plays, knowing that we are not disciplined or consistent enough as a team and will throw an intercption or have drive killing penalties or not be able to pick up 3rd and 3

this has been a major problem with this team, lack of consistency and discipline
part of this is also not being able to run to pick up short yardage when the other team knows you want to (this hurts us both on 3rd down and in the red zone)

hopefully we will see this change

With an O-line that couldn't run block to save their lives that doesn't really work. Also the dink and dunk game isn't what takes linebackers out of running lanes (it actually keeps them there). The deep ball will help our running game ten times more than a dink and dunk offense.

Of course!

Many teams try that. Quite often using a defense that leaves the two safeties in the middle of the field.

Heck Buffalo had great success doing that to Romo early in his career on the Monday night game where Romo gave up 5 picks. The Bills took away all the deep throws.

That is why we need to be more effective running the ball.

Dallas struggles putting drives together because at some point we will stop ourselves.

In the third preseason game, a lot of people saw a missed connection between Romo and T Williams. I saw a wide open Williams and Dez streaking down the sidelines. That's something that I think we will see fairly often this year. There's a lot of big play potential with this WR group.

Create more turnovers to create short fields for the offense.
Run the ball more consistnetly to keep the defense off balance and take pressure off Romo.
Take less penalties, especially inside the opponents 30-yard line.

None of this is rocket science. But do this and, barring significant injuries, they will win the division.

Agree and it makes play action a effective weapon when they actually have to honor the run. Our O becomes so much more effective when teams have to honor the run, open up everything.
