Jerry Jones: Very happy with Cowboys post-Micah Parsons trade

Putting the Jerry nonsense aside, so far the Cowboys have turned Micah Parsons into Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, Malachi Lawrence, Devin Moore, and LT Overton. And a ton of cap savings.

None of them are the same player as Micah.

Dragging out the negotiation and letting other teams set the market and driving his price up was a mistake.

Not coming to terms with a generational talent was a mistake.

The $'s were projected to be in that range before any of them signed. So I don't think he's signing at any time for less than the 38-40 range. Jerry offered him 40.5. If anything Garrett's deal should have been the reason, Micah's slotted in underneath him. Packers giving him 47 isn't something we should have ever been considering.

No, it’s a number which is overly hyped . And why most fans don’t really fully grasp these contracts .

The average yearly amount of contracts has no significant meaning or impact towards Cap hits. Which is really all we should be concerned with.

Those are the amounts which affect team building and roster moves.

I’ve talked to many coaches, ex coaches and players I’d usually entrust their opinions and none believe we handled the negotiations well.

If trading Parsons was our intention then we should have done so early on in Free Agency in order to recoup his full value while having an opportunity to replenish thru draft, etc

The last ditch trade in 11th hour limited the teams who could have got into a bidding war and basically derailed our defense which as a result derailed the season wasting one of the best seasons with Dak and a top 5 offense .

With an aging QB with injury history that hasn’t played consecutive seasons healthy in 10 years you just can’t waste. Total mismanagement!!

Now the fact we are in a position to rebuild and possible recover is due to the value Parsons delivered .

If Jerry had paid Micah and the player then tore his knee up costing a year, in addition to his clownish attitude, I'm certain you'd blame Jerry for giving him a huge contract.

Most of us can't stand Jerry, just like you. But that doesn't mean every single decision he makes is automatically wrong. IMO Jerry was reluctant to pay a non-serious player like Micah all that cash with doubts about his leadership and focus. And I'm not sure he was wrong on that. He obviously didn't mind paying a player like Quinnen who has impeccable attitude, character, and work ethic.

I understand that but that is the number that was most commonly referenced. Regardless of any of the numbers, the player has to deliver. I don't think he will ever justify any of those numbers and I think we are a better team now than with him.

He's guaranteed $136M with $100M paid to him in the first two years. That's real money regardless of cap accounting.

Beautiful. It's so hard to really account for what the trade ultimately provided because flexibility is hard to factor, but this is a clean look.

Maybe we just need it to show like 1/2 Quinnen Williams and it would be set.

The cowboys traded away: Micah, a first round pick and a 2nd round pick.

The cowboys received: Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, Malachi Lawrence, Lt Overton, Devin Moore, and whoever the first round pick is next year.

It's funny how this thread has helped me clarify the trade in my own head.

But if we count Quinnen (which I do), then you could say we traded away Micah and a 2nd because ultimately the 1st that we traded for Q was compensation from the trade.
