Jerry Jones will lean more on Cowboys scouts than coaches in draft

One aspect of the draft that fascinates me - which might mean I have a bad life - is the coexistence of the scouts and the coaches.
When I covered the Bengals, the coaches had huge influence because Cincinnati had the smallest scouting department in the NFL. Coaches would fly to some pro days, pour over tape of prospects, put together reports and owner Mike Brown would listen intently to their opinions.
After all, if they are going to coach the player, they should at least like the player.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has a different take. He is a scout guy. If a scout says one thing and a coach says another, he says he'll lean toward the scout's take.
"They've spent their life doing that and certainly a coach would know what a football player looks like, but he's not spent the time on him," Jones said. "Since I've owned the Cowboys I've always weighed the scouts' [opinion] heavily."
