The problem is not our running back, it's our offensive line. Put a healthy Julius Jones or Marion Barber behind the Seahawks O-line and they'd be ripping off yards right and left just like Alexander.

I don't believe it. If they were truly shopping him for a 2nd round pick, some team would have taken it. Probably just a partial rumor that involved more picks or players.

This statement is entirely correct from start to finish.

While Alexander is a very good RB, his numbers are inflated because he runs behind arguably the best O-Line in football.

Nope, I remember. Him and Edge were being shopped for second rounders, but I think their contract instability and age (they're young, but relatively "up there" for RBs) scared people away. It seems most would rather draft a RB, than go to trade for one.

Second best, IMO. The Chiefs just murder people.

I remember when they used to say the same thing about Emmit.

True. In front of ANY top RB, there is a top offensive line. Whether that's a product of the RB, or a product of the line, is a tough question to answer. Yes, the line opens the holes, but the RB has to be able to hit those holes. And once he gets to the next level, there aren't many linemen around making people miss. Chicken and the egg argument, IMO. Neither one can be considered great without the other being considered the same.

Doubt it.

Football is a team sport. Let's try to stop saying (insert name) would put up the same numbers throwing to so and so, running behind so and so, with so and so on his defensive line. You get better numbers with better teammates, but you have to have some talent yourself to achieve league high numbers, much less the NFL's MVP award. If it was as easy as any player becoming the MVP behind Seattle's offensive line, running backs wouldn't be drafted in the first round.

The same here. We drafted Jacob Rogers with a second rounder when we could have had Julius Jones and Shaun alexander in the same backfield.
Shouldn't the 'soft Shaun' moniker apply to Bledsoe too. He rarely wins against a team with a quality defense, whether in New England,Buffalo or here. Maybe we should call him '8-8 Drew' or '9-7 Drew'.

and there was truth to it then, too.

I don't agree for the simple fact that no other RBs we had couldn't run well behind that "great" line we had in the 90's.

Our "great" line didn't have any Pro-bowlers until Emmit was drafted. If anything Emmit made that line "great".

Don't get me wrong...
Emmitt was a GREAT RB.
I'm not of the shool of thought that the line made him successful.
But it certainly helped in a major way.

Think about it for a second. Why would Seattle trade him for a second rounder? It's all about the $$$$$.

Alexander wants paid. Quite frankly there isn't a back in the NFL that's worth that type of cap hit, not Alexander, Tomlinson or anyone else.

The difference between a "pretty good" back and a "great" back on the field results in a miniscule difference in the W/L column but the difference between the team one can build when that back's not taking up eight million dollars of cap space is much greater.

RBs are replaceable, cap space isn't.

I would love to have Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson on our O-Line. They are two of the best OLs in the game and make up the Seahawks left side.

the reason the trade was never done was he had no contract. kinda risky trading a 2nd round pick for a guy who does'nt have a contract. kinda expensive rent for 1 yr or franchise him and pay him big bucks
