Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan on head coach Mike McCarthy: “He’s coached three playoff teams in a row. I think he’s done an outstanding job. … I frankly said to the (coaching) staff yesterday, ‘You got us in this spot to be as disappointed as we are about the Buffalo game. It’s your fault because y’all have done such a great job this year getting our team to have the expectations that we have (this season).’

“Part of the best part of our team this year has been the coaching staff.”

Just like it was too early to make any judgements on this season 2 weeks ago..it’s still too early to pass any judgement in the other direction now..what happens in the postseason will tell the story

The key to NFL team success is the performance of the GM, HC and QB against their NFL peers.

I just can't figure out which one is under performing more or is it all 3?

It'll be fun to watch the narrative change in the rare chance the wheels come completely off.

If we had all big boys on D they’d throw on us. We’re undersized so they run. I trust Gilly and Bland to survive 1 on 1 so I would stack boxes from now

Another happy meal dished out by JJ. How about being dissatisfied with losing, especially when you get your arse handed to you. I am not about doom and gloom, but this is too soft. Great football minds never liked losing and never gave out hugs after you got bullied.

Jerry is in love with mediocrity, now it seems. I guess, he experienced enough of that excellence thing early in his career.

He actually said something I agree with for once.

However, i am concerned with Quinn’s stubbornness to adjust
I agree with his potential stubbornness to adjust. However, maybe he thought he had the best combination of players on the field to stop the run.

Number one player to take out of this game should have been Cooks. Diggs had not been playing well,

I think when teams are good at certain schemes and think they are better then you, don't even try to disguise it. I think we fall into that at times. Teams no exactly what we are going to do on defense and we can beat 80% of the league doing that.

Buffalo disguised their D very well this game and caused problems for Dak and our receivers.

I agree with Jerry. The issue with run defense is personnel, not necessarily coaching. The Cowboys drafted a LB and DT with 2 of their first 3 picks in 2023. They need to do the same in 2024.

The Cowboys have the 3rd best record in the NFL through 14 games. They currently sit as the #2 seed in the NFC, and are playing the #2 seed in the AFC this coming weekend, and the #3 seed in the NFC the following weekend. No one is underperforming.

Run defense is a personnel problem. The Cowboys spent 2 of their first 3 picks in the 2023 draft on a DT and LB. They need to repeat that in 2024, and continue repeating until they get the interior of the front 7 fixed.

Oh good I was wondering where Jerry stood on his current coaching staff. Thanks for the update!

Some here measure success based on regular season results.
Others like me base their standards on postseason wins.

Opinions vary.

i am not a Jason Garrett fan. But here are the facts:
Jason Garrett was 40-24 in his last 64 games.
Mike McCarthy is 40-24 in his last 64 games.
Jason Garrett won the East twice during this time and a 1-2 playoff record.
McCarthy is in contention for his 2nd NFCE title and is also 1-2 in the playoffs.

I just thought McCarthy was hired to achieve better than Clapper standards.

I'll get back with ya after this year's post season results. I am not confident he will win more than one playoff game, if even that.

Interesting enough since 2016, the Cowboys are 3rd in winning percentage (1 game behind the ravens as a result of this weekends games), 2nd in pts scored (3rd in Tds) and 2nd in points allowed.

Overall the team is performing at a high level in the regular season. It's just underperformed in 4 playoff games.
