  • [*]So what does the free agency period mean for the draft? Jones said it has once again allowed the team to be "position selective" when comes to taking the best-available-player. "We've got ourselves in real good shape to get us some picks that can play immediately. And that's the goal here. If you get yourself in a position where you can draft some players you can put on the field, and be a position selective a little bit, you're doing it (right). Now you never want to pass on the guy you ought to be taking, but still be position selective. And that's, I think, where we are. I feel good that we can take any position there."

That comment really scares me.

No matter how you say it, draft for need is a bad idea.

Of course he talks nonsense though. As he finishes his position selective rant with feeling good that they can take any position. So who knows.

My guess is Guard.

Torrence, Avila or Schmitz
If it is going to be an interior OL… please just make it Schmitz. He is a smart, tough, big player who can be an OC or an OG. Very reminiscent of Frederick, IMO.

However, I’m seeing him go earlier and earlier in mock drafts as we near April. He easily could be off the board before 26. Last night I watched a mock draft collaboration between the NFL Stock Exchange and Bootleg Football that had the Giants taking Schmitz immediately before Dallas’ pick. They had the good WR’s going early and there really wasn’t one available for the Giants at pick 25… so they just took Schmitz. I wouldn’t like that.

its just Jerry speak,he is saying they have positioned themselves to take any position but would prefer some positions so they can play day 1.

Considering he now says Steele is the swing tackle that means we have to adjust our thinking on an OL pick in the 1st round.. Now the player can be an immediate starter. We have a spot waiting for him at LG.
Stephen said the opposite yesterday, 5 best will play.

Is Jerry bracing us for a QB to be taken in the first round. We should be scared!

Dumb of dumb and dumber has spoken. Never mind that the OL line looks worse, they lost Schultz, haven't replaced Zeke, and they haven't re-signed their best run stuffer.

IMO he's saying they don't have to draft for need. That was the whole point of his statement, that they have put themselves into a position, pre-draft, to be able to select BPA because they don't have any glaring holes left to fill.
Now, if you want to say that they do still have glaring holes and he doesn't see them, than I would be more inclined to agree.

LOL.

I dare any sane Cowboys fan to look at DT and say we are fine to the point we can just be selective in the draft.

If they don't come out of this draft with a quality DT candidate, LOL.

“Position selective” means reaching for need…and is the opposite of what we should be doing.

Gosh every thing was going great until Jerry started taking.

No, Jerry means the opposite.

To him "position selective" means they can draft any position and don't have to focus on need.

Jerry has completely given control to cap boy. Stevie preps him before he talks to the media with basic concepts of what they're doing. Jerry doesn't even know the names of many players on the roster.

Everybody now reports to Stevie and Stevie reports to Jerry. McCarthy, McClay, etc. Garrett was the last person that didn't report to cap boy.

Stevie was hiring McCarthy while Jerry was still meeting with Garrett. Stevie prepped McCarthy on what to say to Jerry in the interview which starts with an hour of recapping all of Jerry's achievements and repeating "you're the greatest GM in NFL history" once every third sentence...

McCarthy: "Jerry, I remember when you signed TO. That was brilliant. Jerry, I've heard that you personally scouted Zack Martin, Tyron, Frederick"...(goes on to list all of the all pro players drafted by the Cowboys).

Not the way I interpreted it…to me this means “we’re going to draft a G, RB and TE in rounds 1-3 and force picks at specific positions over talent.”

I really, really hope I’m wrong.
