Wow. I did not realize it, and I was halfway watching RAW last night (switching between it and MNF), but Lawler had a heart attack live on air while at the announce table during a match. It is said he was clinically dead for about 20 minutes. He was defibbed back, taken to hospital, and apparently had or is having blockage surgery?

Man.

(all of the below snipped out of http://www.gerweck.net/ )

From WWE.com:
During the tag team match between Kane & Daniel Bryan and The Prime Time Players tonight on Raw, viewers may have noticed members of the audience and WWE production team staring toward the commentary booth, as well as the absence of Jerry “The King” Lawler’s voice. WWE.com has learned that the WWE Hall of Famer collapsed at the announcers’ table and was tended to in the locker room area by WWE medical staff. Lawler was then taken from the arena to a medical facility in Montreal.

---

Arda Ocal via Twitter:
He is being carried away by personnel to the backstage area. He appeared unconscious as he was being carried.
I sincerely hope Jerry is OK. When I looked over he was hunched over convulsing in his seat and collapsed, then multiple ppl carried him out

Michael Cole Update on Jerry Lawler – Jerry is more responsive, reacting to lights, in isolated section of ER, awaiting a CAT scan
updated: Jerry Lawler condition is stable, is breathing on his own, heart is beating on its own, okay at the moment, awaiting a CAT scan on chest and brain, updates on WWE.com

----

Jim Ross via Twitter: I’m shaken by the news of my friend Jerry Lawler’s medical emergency in Montreal. Hands shaking. Prayers for the King. I feel helpless.

----

Smith Hart tweeted: According to my friend Jeremy Prophet who was backstage at RAW, Jerry was clinically dead for 20 min before being brought back by defibrilat

----

Via Arda Ocal: Have heard now that when Lawler was brought backstage, the entire locker room was asked to leave the immediate area for the EMTs.
I’m hearing from multiple sources backstage at RAW that EMTs saved Lawler’s life before going to Hospital. Confirmed to be a Heart Attack.

----

Via Arda Ocal:
Received word from two sources that Jerry Lawler has undergone a heart procedure to repair blockage.

Yesterday I was thinking about wrestling and I started thinking about some of the wrestlers who have died young, and I wondered who might be next. Jerry isn't young, but it sort of makes those thoughts a little spooky.

I think steroids has something to do with the young deaths.

I saw this on the news this morning and was shocked. Jerry is a HUGE figure in Memphis. He even ran for mayor a few years ago. I'm glad to hear he's responsive and breathing on his own. It would be a huge loss for this town.

You read so much online who knows what to believe but I read he was clinically dead for a number of minutes. I hope that doesn't mean he suffered brain damage; hope that is not true.

Updates (from gerweck):

Stacy ‘The Kat’ Carter:
Just got a @JerryLawler update. He had a stint & a balloon put in. Right now he is still heavily sedated. Will update when I know more

Arda Ocal via Twitter:
WIS-TV in Memphis is reporting that Jerry Lawler will undergo heart surgery today. http://www.wistv.com/story/19507908/jerry-the-king-lawler-suffers-from-heart-attack

According to Dave Meltzer, Jerry Lawler’s father passed away at about the same age “The King” is now (62) from a heart attack. It is well known in the wrestling community that Lawler doesn’t use recreational drugs, but the word is that he doesn’t undergo regular check ups. Lawler did wrestle over the weekend in Aruba, thus had a long plane ride to Montreal for last night’s Raw.

There is concern about blood being cut off from the brain as a result of the heart attack.

We will keep you posted on The King’s condition as updates become available.

Thank you Phoenix for updates.

Michael Cole was very good last night after this happened. You could tell he was very upset but he was professional.

Along with drinking and all forms of hard drugs. Pretty sad really.

Yes this news on Jerry was pretty scary. I watched the show on DVR after I got home and seen this and was in shock. After he'd just wrestled a little bit prior to that then he had that heart attack. Scary, scary, scary moment.

My prayers are with Jerry and his family. I hope he pulls through this well but it just doesn't sound or feel good.

Yeah I had also watched him wrestle just earlier in the program, and was halfway watching the doubles match going on when this event happened. In retrospect it did go somewhat silent for a bit but I hardly noticed, and actually flipped back to MNF, after which I fell asleep on my couch...

Hopefully he makes a full recovery but I would imagine his actual wrestling career is over.

An update from Lawler's son (via gerweck)

Jerry Lawler update from his son Brian Christopher: “Ok, here’s the latest real update. Lauren and I are here at the hospital in Montreal. He does not look good at all. He is responsive to questions that he is asked which is very good. His sedation and breathing support are being lowered slowly right now. He was shocked a total of 7 times at the arena and underwent a balloon stint to open up a clogged artery when he arrived at hospital. Everyone out there needs to say a special prayer for his brain at this point, please. Tests on his brain will not be available until the morning. One of us two will keep all you guys informed as we know more”

Well on the one hand it appears his heart is on the mend.

On the other it appears brain damage is a concern.

Another update - no brain damage. Lawler is a lucky man in the sense that this attack happened where it did and he was able to get immediate medical help...

http://www.wmctv.com/story/19521437/ct-scan-results-for-jerry-lawler-revealed#.UFCYO1nsB5A.facebook

(WMC-TV) - Friends, family, and fans have been on pins and needles awaiting Jerry "The King" Lawler's CT scan results. According to Joe Cooper, who is Lawler's best friend and business partner, the results are in.

Cooper says Lawler does not have brain damage as a result of his heart attack Monday night.

Probably my final update for this unless something unexpected occurs, but looks like the King is going to be just fine.

Jerry "The King" Lawler is making tremendous progress after suffering a heart attack earlier this week ... and is now awake, alert and responsive ... this according to Lawler's son.

TMZ spoke with Kevin Lawler ... who tells us, "[Jerry] is hooked up to tubes and is still not able to speak … but he's writing stuff on a notepad to talk to people."

"Not just brief notes, but detailed stories which show he knows where he is and what is going on.”
