Jerry said about FS - "I like what we can do from within"

I think they may end up going with Watkins too...with a much improved front 7 scheme and a yr more of offseason experience, he could end up being a very good FS

David

I fully agree. He ended the season on a high note and I look for good things out of the kid this year.

Henry already has enough trouble playing straight-up man coverage.

There is NO WAY he can play Cover-2/Cover-1

No way. He cant run to the corners and he can't close.

:jerk:

Watkins looks like he has the talent, and besides just because we draft a S high doesn't mean he's going to be any good. The draft is still a crap shoot.

As for Henry, does no one factor in the fact that his knee was wrecked all last year when he was playing poorly? Parcells must have felt he was still the best option rather than let him get healthy. His first year with us he was our defensive MVP for the first 10 or so games of the year (until he got hurt).

So maybe we worry if he is injury prone, but the guy is a really good corner when healthy.

Frankly I think the coaches like what they saw from Watkins on film near end of season and think he's the guy. But even if he is we got nothing behind him if he gets hurt we in trouble. No way do I want Keith Davis any where near FS & can't understand how coaching staff can even include his name. Frankly, I think we draft a CB in the first round (given Glenn & Henry ages) so that position doesn't become a must need in 08 since I doubt Reeves or Jones good enough to start.

The FS was only the 9th or 8th worse position on the team last season, contrary to popular belief.

Spears, James and possibly Canty were consistently bigger problems.

I'm not sold on Watkins. Hard to put much faith in a guy that you see almost crying on the sideline.

However, drafting a FS in one is idiotic. Ireland more or less said so. He did make comments about finding one later though.

I'd still love to see Dallas draft Wendling. Could probably back up both spots and should be a force on specials. He's smart too, I think the secondary is lacking an intelligent leader right now.

The worst thing to do is assume that someone is going to improve enough to fill a hole.

Henry was not on any of the NFL injury reports for the Dallas Cowboys late in 2006.

Other guys played with worse.

For $11 Million, I expect the guy to play like a top corner.

I am beginning to wonder if we have a psychiatric problem here with the uneducated one. I have not seen ANYONE so obsessed with shooting down one player- not even TO as this guy is about Henry.

For all the people that think Jerry is "blowing smoke" please find me a SINGLE INSTANCE where Jerry has "blown smoke" when it comes to the draft.

Just one.

Find me one.

Please.

And you don't "blow smoke" when you're sitting at #22. Give me a break.
Jerry Jones has earned his reputation for blowing smoke.

Remember Jerry's meetings with Parcells while Campo was coach?

Ask Jerry Porter about the draft. Or Rafael Vela:

Just to be clear, I don't have a problem with Jerry's smoke blowing.
And Jerry is not unique ... he has plenty of company on draft day: smoke

Because it is unwise for Jerry Jones to tell people of his draft day plans, it is naive to take him at his word at such times.

thats stupid...from within?????????????????? who? when are we going to face it and just get a centerfielder? stupid stupid stupid

Maybe Kenny Lofton can come over from the Rangers when the season's over

I think a name to watch out for this training camp is Abram Elam, remember he was one of the highly recruited players coming out of high school, Florida State had him inked as their next great DB...

I've never been in favor of Henry to FS - to me it just makes a hole at CB. I'd rather see Watkins -- but more importantly, if we have a better and more aggressive effective pass rush then FS will be far easier to fill.

The reason I like the move of Henry to FS is that it does create a hole at CB. Henry will be 31 this season and Father Time is laying his claim on the guy -- he's slowing and has been injured for the past two years. There are a couple very good corners that will be available in the draft, so we could potentially settle up the position for a good while.

By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News

Henry says he's OK to play: Despite a right knee that's caused him discomfort for the last month, cornerback Anthony Henry said he's ready to play.

"I feel like I'm not where I want to be, but at the same time I'm all right to play and make plays," Henry said. "I came out of last week's game feeling the same as I do now, so I think I'll be fine."

Henry said his knee could be drained but he would run the risk of an infection, so he will keep icing it down instead.

Henry is not a bad corner. In fact, he's actually a very good one. The problem he has run into the last couple of years has to do more with injuries than anything else. I think Dallas does need to keep corner on the back of their mind when it comes draft time, but you don't have to reach. More importantly, you don't have to move Henry away from it because he isn't a liability.

The really funny thing to me about all of this is how everyone wants a centerfielder. Well, guess what? Pat Watkins was generally regarded as the best "centerfield" type of safety prospect in that draft last year. The bigger knock on Watkins was how he would match up against slot receivers.

I would still like Dallas to bring in a veteran safety who can do the job. I don't think it's wise to automatcially write off what you've already got on this team. Both Watkins, and even Elam, have some ability. Get someone to help them - not just take their spot.

henry is a better cb than most here give him credit for
cb will be easier to play as will fs if we get a pass rush
i think we will go cb in rnd 1 because glenn is getting old and henry is no spring chicken and f.a. cb's are too dang expensive
with jones and reeves it's a easy spot to upgrade and have a guy to be the 3rd cb after this coming season and step in for henry in a couple of years.

Like I said...

BOOK IT.

we're not drafting a DB in the 1st round.
