Jerry Selling Ad Space In Team Introduction Video

I haven't seen a thread about this and tried some searches, so apologies if one already exists.

The Cowboys produce their own game presentation for the video monitors. It's not feed from the network, which is pretty standard. With the new big high def screens, they are taking that production further than ever before.

Before the team is introduced, there is a video montage played on the giant TV's. It's usually a mesh of great plays from the past championship teams, some shots of the Lombardi trophies lined up, and some images of current players making great plays, etc. I've always been slightly disturbed by the comparisons of teams that took it all the way and this team, which has yet to win a playoff game, but I can understand why they do it to pump up the crowd, etc. and remind us all of our history.

At the Thanksgiving Day game against the Raiders, they ran a video montage to introduce players as per normal, but also woven into the video were scenes from a new movie coming out, called Avatar. It had a bunch of blue skinned, bug eyed people shooting bows and arrows at some predator hair people in the jungle. This was part of the TEAM INTRODUCTION video, not just an ad for the movie during the game.

I know Jerry has an expensive stadium to pay for and all that. Expensive player salaries, etc. etc. Selling ads all over everything is to be expected, and I don't begrudge the guy making money... BUT... splicing ads into a montage to introduce the team is taking things too far, in my opinion, and I found it extremely offensive.

Anyone else at the game have a similar reaction? Or do you think it doesn't matter?

I dont give a damn. I would do all kinds of ads with that 60 yard money making machine hanging above the field.

One of the things I like about Jerry Jones is his marketing savvy. The NFL made a deal with Reebok. He made one with Nike. The NFL made one with Coke. He made one with Pepsi. Deals with Ford, Papa Johns, AT & T, etc.

He uses these sources of income to make this team a flagship in the NFL. It is professionalism in marketing at its apex.

No matter what you think of Jerry as a GM, his marketing savvy is unparalleled in the NFL.

I have never really understood why fans have an issue with it if doesn't interrupt the game on the field. The jerseys are not billboards for products like NASCAR does. Introductions like this or a logo watermark on the video, or signs in the stadium, etc. do nothing to change the game. All they accomplish is funding to put the best possible product on the field and have the franchise value be tops in the NFL.

I can't fault the business aspect of the way this team is run one iota. The value of NFL franchises went through the roof when Jerry Jones became a maverick and taught these multi-millionaires and billionaires how to make money.

No issue with it.

Jerry isn't the only one with marketing savvy. His daughter Charlotte is quite adept at acquiring advertisers and promoting the organization. When it comes to their brand, the Cowboys are in good hands for years to come.

I appreciate Jerry (and Charlotte's) marketing savvy and many of they ways they've brought more money into the franchise and have been able to deliver us such a great stadium and organization. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jerry come up with a sponsor for every player. I just felt that putting scenes from an upcoming movie into scenes from Cowboy victories and success in the team introduction was taking it too far. It's easy to appreciate the cleverness of it too, though.

Great job by Jerry. After all this is a business. Can't imagine anyone being upset about it in this era.

Every owner and player in the NFL is benefiting from Jerry Jones. No doubt about it.

On top of that, it appears as if Stephen Jones is becoming more and more the football-head and GM of the team. I think the Cowboys are definitely in good hands for years to come, both in marketing and on the field.

I am not sure what the complaint is?

Without knowing for a fact, I bet more teams did something similar. I forget which studio owns avatar, but they probably paid alot to get more exposure, just like they paid a lot to get the trailer played for the first time at the stadium the week we played the seahawks.

I also will add, that in 03,04,05 the cowboys must have had a licensing aggreement with belo or someone to use movie clips to pump the crowd. I always thought it was great. They intercut player highlights with lots of old movies, like gladiator, braveheart, predator, rocky etc.....

I am a pretty traditional vanilla guy, but this stuff is harmless and actually creates some great atmosphere. The old shot of shwarzanegger putting his spear into the tree and screaming from predator used to make the crowd go nuts.

Jerry Jr. runs the marketing end. Charlotte handles entertainment, live performers etc...that is her thing.

Ummm, the NFL is a business FIRST, and Jerry handles his business pretty responsibly; menaing it does not interfere with the game.

So if you're offended, you can switch to watching the college game, which is not a business!...Oh...WAIT...

Jerry would sell ad space on his grand kids foreheads if he could get away with it. :laugh2:

One of Charlotte's many titles is Executive Vice President Brand Management. I'm sure there is some marketing involved there. In fact, I once read an article that stated as much.

I was at the game and saw the promotional for the movie Avatar and had no issue with it. I have been to other games at Texas Stadium where they showed clips of the movie Gladiator as well as Tombstone and had no problem with that. My focus was on how the team would play and was happy with the results.
