Jerry, Stephen, Schottenheimer, McClay and the Cowboys FO outsmarted everyone

You know, I miss the first 35 years when we went to the playoffs 23 times, 14 NFC Championship games, 8 super bowl appearances, and 5 superbowl victories. Oh, and two NFL championship games pre-super bowl era. Playoff success was the expectation.
Cowboys won 175 games over the 20 season stretch of 1984-2003.

PS - we're the only team on your list without at least 1 superbowl championship in that timeframe (never mind superbowl or championship game appearance) but yay us I guess.
Continue to knock on that door! It took Philadelphia 18 seasons to kick it in

Now it's "yay 7th place regular season Champs for the past 20 years".
Just pointing out that the team has not been near as bad as the perception

Perception is worse than reality. People believe perception, they don't believe reality - Steve Young

They deserve a big round of applause...

:bow::clap::starspin:

That's because Jerry said they have 2 big trades to make. Only 1 has been made so far...

:flagwave:

I hear you AC if we trade and get a dominant defensive tackle I will call this a very serious turnaround from last year's off season.

I'm definitely a bit excited and anxious to see the results of the effort that has been made this year to turn the team around.

And no matter what happens you do have to applaud the fact that there was effort made

Dash me buttons if I saw that great draft and good off-season coming our way.
Now, before we get carried away with platitudes, a good off-season does not compare to 30 years of futility, now does it?

You "outsmart" everyone by winning playoff games and Super Bowls and that's something that the Cowboys haven't done in 30 years.
They've been lacking in the GM department for 30 years. It's funny cause that department shined when Jimmy was here.

Stealers said there was little interest in Pickens. So the Cowboys were one of very few (possibly the only team) who called asking about him.

I do not define that as the Cowboys FO outsmarting everyone.
Yep, it's more akin to the FO conceding to the Steelers asking price. On one hand, why pay it when you could of gambled on the Steelers not carrying DK and Pickens and his price would fall, or there is the thinking that we need Pickens asap, to get into Dak's 'backyard' working on the chemistry.

I think it is a big positive that we had a great draft and got more aggressive in free agency. Perhaps we should be optimistic about the coaching staff as well. I wish this organization and operations weren't owned and run by the Jones's either. But I can't buy them out or have global media influence. This upcoming season I will be one game at a time focused and hope we will be a significantly improved team.

I'll take finishing in the top 10 in total wins over a 20 season stretch every day of the week and twice on football Sundays!!!
Tell me.

What does a great regular season winning percentage achieve other than just that.

Isn’t the ultimate goal to win the championship? It it isn’t. Why bother?

Of course not. But give credit where credit is due. This ownership, front office and new coaches have taken the first step at making some very well thought out, well planned and designed draft and free agency signings/trades to help bolster the team while clearly taking the steps to start changing the culture within this organization. Does it mean it will work? We don't know yet. Time will tell. But for the meantime, they deserve a little credit for taking the necessary steps to make certain changes and get the ball rolling in the right direction...finally.

I think it's kind of hard to do that on a one year rental, if he had a few years left on his deal, hell yeah

Bahhhhh Bahhhhh
Just falling in line like the lemmings below....

Nice list, but did you notice anything important? There's only 1 team on the list who hasn't been to a championship game or a super bowl in the last 30 years.

But hey, let's keep celebrating all the regular season wins Jerry's Jonestown boys are racking up.

Nice job on manufacturing that season range juuuussstttt right so you could squeeze us into the top 10. It would have been "weird" to have a range from 2000-present (i.e. this century) so let's lop off the first 4 years, and exclude last year, LOL

2004-2023 is a MUCH more logical date range to choose. Hey...I have a better date range: let's do from the 2016 season to the 2016 season (don't include the playoffs though). WINNING!!!!!!!

Probably going to have to give Pickens a nice fat contract to keep him after this year or you threw away two draft picks for a 1 year rental

Yep, a 3rd, a 5th, and a 6th for a 1 year rental for a disgruntled shady dude, for a team that desperately needs to rebuild from the foundation up, remaking the culture along the way, seems pretty smart to me.

Pickens
Mingo
Mazi
Guyton
Schloopmaker
Resign Dakota to biggest contract in history

Our list of moves where we bamboozle the league just keeps growing and growing, and the results speak for themselves.

The scoreboard and records don't show it, but we're the best team in the league, once again, just like we have been.
