Based on their comments post playoff disaster, I am not sure they are on the same page. Stephen made it sound like MM was their guy. JJ appears to not be so sure. If someone he likes is available, I could see MM getting the hook.
Both do weekly interviews during the season on local sports talk radio as well as being frequent radio guest in the off-season.
For the past several years, they end up doing what Stephen says and his philosophy.
It has definitely been that way going back to when they cut Dez.
Stephen is the one that pushed Garrett out the door.
- Jerry was still meeting with Garrett after that season while Stephen was doing preliminary interviews with McCarthy and others.
I'm not certain exactly how he does it, but Stephen has minimized Jerry's influence over football operations.
Obviously, Jerry will never give up being 1st in line when microphones/cameras are present; however, it appears that he spends the majority of his time dealing with Stadium Issues or on his Yacht.
Stephen has now managed to have all football people reporting to him, placing himself between them and Jerry.
- Garrett was the last person with direct access to Jerry with regards to reporting structure.
From what I've heard from people that work for the Cowboys and some local media people that I know, Stephen & McClay basically make presentations like company executives make to their Board of Directors.
- The presentations use stats, charts, etc. to make points.
- With that type of setup, it is relatively easy to bias a presentation to make it appear that there is overwhelming evidence to support the presenters agenda.
