More no huddle? Apparently most do not understand how no huddle is ran.... Plays are scripted, they practice it. The QB can change formations and cadence but the plays are scripted. The pace and the inability of the dsefense to make substitutions is what makes it work.

Oh, one other point. Romo is not Peyton Manning.

I think what Jerry is saying is: were paying you like top Qb...now become one.

The Romo and Jerry stalkers/haters...will spin this how they want it.

Don't waste your time
Don't give Jerry a pass for this. He created a story for no reason. Already hearing this all over the radio.

First Take Debate: "Is Tony Romo committed to Football?"

Stupid Jerry....:bang2:I'm not a big Romo fan but he didn't deserve this out in the open.

Jerry Jones wants Tony Romo to work like Peyton Manning

Now that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has given quarterback Tony Romo a six-year, $108 million contract, Jones wants to see Romo make his entire life revolve around football.

“Peyton Manning-type time on the job,” Jones said he wants Romo to work, via the Dallas Morning News.

Jones said he and Cowboys coach Jason Garrett would love to see Romo spend the majority of his waking hours at the team facility.

“If Tony, for instance, would be here Monday through Saturday . . . from seven in the morning to six o’clock at night all over this place then that’s better than the way it’s been,” Jones said. “We’ll have more success, and Jason believes that. It’s certainly at quarterback but he believes it at the other positions. Tony is going to have more time, more presence, not only in the offseason but when the season starts, beginning Monday, assuming we played Sundays. He’s going to have more time on the job. A part of what we agreed with was extra time on the job, beyond the norm.”

Fair or not, Romo has taken criticism at times in his career for a perception that he doesn’t always have all his focus on football: Whether it’s working on his golf game, dating celebrities or going on vacations during bye weeks, Romo has heard talk that he has too many outside distractions.

Jones recently called that criticism “ridiculous,” but Jones also says he admires the way Manning doesn’t just do what is required of an NFL quarterback, and he hopes Romo will use Manning as his role model.

“Anybody will tell you that Peyton Manning’s involvement in what they do is a bonus as opposed to what the general commitment is of top quarterbacks in the NFL,” Jones said. “That’s a bonus. Again, because I haven’t been in meetings with Peyton for a long time, but we’re committed and [Romo's] committed to that type of in-season and off-season approach for these years under his contract.”

Romo is certainly being paid enough to work overtime.

If we had a real GM, the players would have to put in "Peyton Manning-type time".

We rarely agree, Z, but I'm in lock step with you on this one.

THIS is the type of stuff that hurts Jerrah as a GM (well... this and many other things).

Absolutely NOTHING Positive can come from him saying this to a "Journalist".

Nothing.

At.

All.

that would really annoy me if I were tony. Micro-managing my schedule.

Then you are thin-skinned.

What the club is saying to Romo is, "We think you have an exceptional football mind that we wish we had better utilized it earlier. We want you to lead the way on offense, not merely for the players but for the front office, too. If you can spend more time with the coaching staff improving its output we think it will result in a championship for all of us. Of course, we will pay you well for it. Think about it."

Romo apparently did think about it and agreed. Are you saying you would not agree to such an arrangement, but be offended by such confidence shown in you?

:)

I wish Jerry would just keep his mouth shut. The media can spin the way they want it. Since it is Dallas and Romo it is coming off negative. Romo already has so many challenges in place and the Owner GM makes more challenges.

Exactly. But this is who Jerry is. You can see the twinkle in his eye when he gathers with the media. He lives for his name and his team being in other people's mouths.

"500 coaches..." to "be like Peyton"

He has not changed, never will.

That's because Peyton Manning has no life outside of football. Much respect to the guy for havig one focus/ability and doing it very well. I think Romo has the ability to have a life outside of football... so trying to turn him into Peyton Manning is/would be a disaster... to him, and to this team. You signed a quarterback who doesn't necessarily live & breathe football- for better or worse. That doesn't mean he can't succeed unless he does. It means build a team (and scheme) that emphasizes his strengths.

Don't make this about what Jerry said but more about what the Cowboys management and coaches think about Romo and his preparation.

IMO, JJ shouldn't have to say this about a player who he just gave a 108 million dollar contract.

1. If he felt that way he SHOULDN'T Have given him 108 million.

2. Regardless of how he feels, he should NEVER bring it up to the media. EVER. Just plain stupidity on his part.

+1

Jerry just can't keep his mouth shut. If he had issues with Romo maybe they should have been addressed prior to handing him tons of money, money I think Romo deserves btw.

Jerry is just a moth drawn to a flame when he sees a TV camera or microphone. It is just sad.

I am sure Peyton has a life outside of football. He has a wife & small kids.

The difference is Peyton grew up in a house with a NFL QB dad. He was raised around that his whole life.

I actually think mentally he's just on a different level than EVERY other QB in the NFL, even Eli.

maybe Jerry felt the money was his only way of getting this "peyton" type commitment from Romo.

Again, you're addressing jj rather than the fact that this organization questions Romo's preparation, which to me, is the bigger issue.

I don't understand what's so "ouch" about it. It's basically saying "Look we want you to be an integral part of the game planning. We liked what we saw in the no huddle and we want you to contribute to the weekly process of conceiving the game plan rather than just executing it. That's going to require more of your time and it's important that we know that we can get that type of commitment from you before we knock out this contract. Are you in?"

It's no secret that Manning is HEAVILY involved in the game planning and execution of the offense that he runs. Moreso probably than any other QB in the league. The article didn't say they wanted Aaron Rodgers level of commitment or Drew Brees. It said Peyton Manning. Arguably the hardest working QB in the business. The fact that they've asked Romo to be that heavily involved in the offense speaks volumes about what they think of him as an all around leader and football player. I don't see a single "ouch" in that situation at all.

This.
