Jerry's 3 Biggest Regrets

Are we discussing Jerry Jones' regrets? Or people projecting what they think Jones regrets?

Jones does not regret anything. He thinks he is a qualified football executive.

Jimmy Johnson disrespected him. Jones' response? Having a hissy fit and doing nothing to retain a two-time defending Super Bowl winning head coach.

Jones knew he saw a franchise caliber quarterback in Dak Prescott within three months into his rookie season. The only regret Jones may have about his unwavering commitment to Prescott is the amount of money he pumps into one position in order to retain his choice. Otherwise, Jones regrets nothing concerning Prescott.
How did Jimmy disrespect Jerry?

How did Jimmy disrespect Jerry?
Answer: by Jimmy Johnson not conforming with Jerry Jones' need for public accreditation of him re-making Dallas into Super Bowl champions. It was not a one-time occurrence but the reported last time happened nearly a week before their infamous parting on March 28, 1994. Los Angeles Times' Bill Plaschke wrote an abbreviated account of the incident (link).

Jones' narcissism is classic Little Man Syndrome. Johnson toyed with Jones as easily as he masterfully brought out the best in players (dude's college major was psychology). In the end, Jones was so flustered, in not getting the broadcast praise he coveted, that he literally got mad and couldn't take it anymore.

Jethro regretted firing Chan Gailey too soon. But he hasn’t publicly admitted many mistakes . Randy Moss was another admitted oversight.

I get the anti-dak sentiment, but I really believe Jerry's biggest regret is having to let Ware go.

Jerry is loyal to a fault, and they've been gun shy with the cap and about utilizing FAs ever since/

I'm sure Jerry is watching this doodoo show and having serious regrets. Top 3 has to be....

1) firing Jimmy
2) giving Dak his first big contract
3) giving Dak his second big contract
Nope...he doesn't regret any of that.

Just watch, he's gonna double down yet again on these very things.

Jimmy did NOT disrespect Jerry. Jerry did by getting drunk and telling people almost any coach could win with the team HE built. There is some truth to that but Jimmy was a hardcore disciplinarian. Talent alone didn't make them successful. Jimmy holding them accountable did.

Bold> The disrespect is interpreted by the person feeling offending. Florida-Times Union's Vito Stellino gives a brief summary of the event underscoring why Jones felt disrespected (link):
During the NFL meetings in March of 1994 in Orlando, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was annoyed because he believed coach Jimmy Johnson and some of his friends had snubbed him at a league party.
So he told a few reporters late at night in a hotel bar that 500 coaches could coach the Cowboys.

In short, Jones felt disrespected by Johnson (and his guests) lukewarm show of appreciation for him. Jones could have manned up and realized his self-proclaimed importance matched how Johnson and his party reacted to his boasting. Instead...

Well. We have all witnessed what Jones' narcissism has reaped for decades since.

They were too busy trying to convince themselves to ride the”hot hand”. That argument never sat well with me considering no rookie QB has ever done it and never will imo.
....but the battered veteran wasn't doing it either, no fault or not. That's what's been bothering people throughout the 29 year drought. That's it.

Lol.... contraception

Nowhere near the top of the list, but allowing the camera's record the war room prior to the Mazi pick has highlighted that the whole FO is pretty ineffective.

I think this would've been the wrong environment for Moss to come to. with the Vikings he had a wide receiver willing to take him under his wing. Here we had Irvin, who would've been a bad example off the field for Moss to be mentored by, plus all the other bad examples at the time. Great talent, but I think it wouldn't have ended well here if he came to Dallas.
One of few errors Jerry actually admits and you aren't going to give it to him?

Moss and Aikman would have been spectacular. Troy was a much better QB than Dante Cukpepper. lol. Irvin was never a deep ball guy and was struggling to find space near the end of his career......which lead to Troy holding onto the ball too long, scrambling, and taking hits he shouldn't have taken. Moss was uncoverable. He was always open. Might have even extended Troys career a few years.

Jerry's biggest Regrets
  • Hiring Jimmy Johnson
  • Troy Aikman retiring
  • Not drafting Johnny Football

Cowboys biggest Regrets
  • Jerry Jones firing Jimmy Johnson make Jerry Jones owner, GM, and defacto Head Coach
  • Not drafting Randy Moss
  • Jerry Jones is still the GM
