Jerry's comments on Osa trade

We would like Osa but also we need cash. Gotta get ready to run a 3-4/4-3 hybrid and that means a lot of new pieces on defense.
A 3-4 defense puts a premium on LBers.

I’m just thrilled we are switching to that defense when LBer was arguably our weakest unit last year. Perfect timing. Especially given that we have just so much raw untapped potential at that position, waiting in the wings, too.

Jerry Jones on the Cowboys trading DT Osa Odighizuwa to the 49ers: “We needed to spread it around a little bit on what we have available to us with (the salary cap). More importantly, we can put it in some places that probably get more mileage out of what it’s done. That’s not taking anything away from him individually, but we’ve got two outstanding football players (Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark), we have other backup players, plus we don’t want to rule out drafting a player. So, we thought that was the best move. …

“(Odighizuwa) has such high character. He’s done such an amazing job in his career. You could say, ‘Well, aren’t you going the wrong way when people of his quality, his caliber, aren’t on the team?’ But that’s the reason we were able to get what we thought was a really beneficial result for the team. We got the (third-round draft pick). (That pick) will be very helpful to us. And (that) also lets us put those resources that we’re going to spend there in some other spots we need help.”

Yes, and we have 3 upside starters there. Zeke, Overshown and Gary. James showed some promise. We have Wheat and Land. Barron is an interesting guy. Raw and undersized for a run stopper, but could get a look at for nickel LB.

And we have the draft and post camp cutdowns. Patience.

Kenneth Murray Junior and 1 legged Overshown to the rescue! Jack Sanborn is ready as well!

Did he explain why last year he thought Osa was worth 80 million dollars and this year he thought he was worth a 3rd round pick?

Asking for some haters.
Going into last year he was our starting 3T in a 4-3. Playing with Micah. Things obviously changed since then.

So an 80 million dollar player is worth a 3rd round pick now because he chose to trade Micah and hired a different DC?

'Very helpful' has zero meaning if-and-until the move translates into a player upgrade greater than the former third round draft pick you just traded. It is your usual lip service until then, not before.

This was a very good trade.
I liked Osa to a point. He could make some splash plays, but were far and few in between.
He did not take over nor dominate games.

At this point the 3rd round pick is a steal. Plus it dumps a big contract, that was probably not worth it to begin with.
Not saying Dallas fleeced SF. As they got a good player. More proven than a 3rd round rookie at this point.
Depends how Dallas uses this pick, and who they elect from it.

I better about going into. the draft, and on day 2 than before. Still want a 2nd round pick. Either trade down, or some team to make an offer to Bass. Which I do not see happening.

We switched DCs and schemes.
Or ......... now this is gonna be a controversial idea ......... Jerry has no idea about talent evaluation ......... and in a years span thinks a guy is worth 80 million dollars and then a 3rd round pick.

It clearly shows that he - and his family - have no actual plan.

Just one year ago, Osa, Bland, and Matt Eberflus and a 4-3 defense was what they wanted to do.

After a disastrous 2025 season, it’s a 180 degree change.

They traded for Kenny Clark, then for Quinnen Williams, and then decided on a 3-4 defense.

Hopefully, they have a plan now - Parker’s - and they stick with it for longer than a year.

I was happy to see the team get a 3rd round pick and get out of that bad contract. I consider that two wins.
