34 for Blue, interesting, but why didn't he take his college number, wasn't he 23, and it is available.
50 seems right for James.
Toia kept his college number, seems right.
Wonder if any will change later on.

Thanks. Though the roster is not updated, not unusual. They lag 2 weeks from wiki roster. But wiki roster has not been updated either, as to any UDFA's.

#34 for Blue?

Why is the Cowboys front office refusing to give Jaydon Blue his original college #23 jersey? Yes, we all know LB Buddy Johnson currently has #23, but he was forced to receive #23 this offseason after the Cowboys signed LB Jack Sanborn and gave him Buddy Johnson's previous #57 jersey. Besides, a #23 is supposed to be for a running back, NOT A LINEBACKER!!!

This is the same crap this front office pulled the past 2 seasons against DeMarvion Overshown. Quit playing stupid PROVE IT games and simply give Jaydon Blue #23! SMH. Can't stand when this front office acts like bully kids...

This has nothing to do with the front office. Buddy Johnson picked 23 after it became available (at the time there were plenty other LB eligible numbers to choose from). Johnson is a veteran and thus has the right to keep his number unless/until he decides to change it.

Plus, other numbers will become available for Blue after roster cutdowns before the regular season. Tony Pollard wore 36 before switching to 20. Heck, even Jason Witten wore 49 in his first training camp before getting his iconic 82.

Holden getting 53 man roster player treatment with that number even if he's sharing. Kelly is not too far behind although he's sharing with Bell.

Sanborn wanted his old 57 and Johnson obliged. Both players are veterans. It's kind of an unwritten rule, but Buddy Johnson has been in the NFL for over 4 years and doesn't have to give up his jersey number to a 5th round rookie if he doesn't want to.

Is it silly? Yes. Does it make sense? No. But for now, Blue won't get 23 until Johnson agrees or gets cut. Both could happen anyway.

I agree. The NFL allows duplicate numbers during the preseason so long as one is on offense and the other on defense.

Right now there are two 7s (Holden and Diggs), two 14s (Kelly and Bell) and two 27s (Revel and Sanders).

Why is it the teams fault? Maybe Blue does not was #23 even if it was available. Very rare will a team make a player change his number if a rookie comes in to want it. Usually it is left up to the two players. Team will not get involved.

For Dallas it is up to the equipment manager to hand out numbers. But if one is available at a players request he will accommodate them.

It is not a knock on Jerry or the team as some want to make it out to be.

If Blue wanted 23 now he could have it. Perhaps he chose 34 himself. Why is this being turned into an issue?

When Sanborn signed he wanted 57 from Johnson and got it. Johnson, at the time, PICKED 23. He could have also had 50, 52, or 55- ALL were available at the time (pre-draft).

Why are we making it sound like Jerry and Stephen are sitting around preventing players from wearing numbers now?
