Odd that they'd choose the exact numbers of the guys that left.

any numbers on positions bother anybody else? 50's on DL, teens on receivers and anyone wearing #1 bother me:confused:

I think DE's can now wear it. Doesn't Vernon from Giants wear a 50 number?

I think that defensive linemen could wear 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 90-99 for a while now. I know in the 1970s they changed the rules to designate numbers for positions, but some players like Brad Van Pelt (wore #10 and was a LB) was grandfathered in. Then in the 1990s, Keyshawn was able to wangle his way into wearing 19 due to lack of #80s while he was in training camp. Devin Hester switched from CB to WR and didn't have to change numbers. There are a few exceptions, but overall, the league is pretty stringent with their number designations, just ask Reggie Bush. However, last year (or maybe the year before) they changed the rule to allow linebackers to wear 40-49 so now you see guys like Jake Ryan, Vic Beasley, Bud Dupree and some of the younger linebackers in the league wearing 40s numbers. You could even draft an edge rusher, plan on have him playing LB, then maybe put him in a three point stance at DE occasionally. Defensive ends potentially wearing #40? What's the world coming to?

Thanks, I appreciate it.
58 is a LB number, wonder what's up there.
May play him like the do Wilber, can play both if needed.
Crawford never did it, numbers have changed now linebackers can wear 40's like dline can wear 50's.

Is there actually a reason for positions only wearing certain number? Why does it even matter? A QB wearing 99 would be hilarious.
