Jesse Holley lays out why Blue and Milton got the ax

Think of any player that the Cowboys traded for and then turned around and traded to another team.

Did the Cowboys ever get anything better than what they initially gave up for him?

Joe Milton, Amari Cooper, just off the top of my head. What does that say about the ability to measure talent and impact in the game?
Every NFL team whiffs on players EVERY year. Not just the Cowboys.

George Pickens, shows up every single day, even without a contract,
He’s not a good example for your narrative
No he is. Because it’s well known and documented that he still arrives lates to meetings and practices and has missed curfews.

I’m not anti Pickens. I like him. I’m just saying. The star players get away with unprofessional behavior. The middling ones don’t. Because on Sundays Pickens helps you win.

Agreed. But they also chose not to make Milton the backup QB and were willing to risk losing him to another team. However you choose to slice it, a message was sent - he still has a ways to go.

Nothing against Milton at all. But I don’t see how anyone can say this team didn’t send a message to him.

And in a league starved for even decent QB play, not a single other NFL team wanted him? That says something too X.
I think your OP has some measure of speculation to it.

I also think cutting down to 53 is very difficult AND risky to the team.

Was cutting Flournoy last year a "message"? Or risky necessity?

I know...not every move is equivalent. And I do think Milton has some growing to do...both QBing and maturity. I think he's trying too hard, and disappointed with the results.

Howell seems more "settled in"...more comfortable with himself.

So it could be, as usual...a couple different sides to the story not just one thing.

I know you’re not anti-Pickens, I’m just very surprised to hear that, he did that last season, but there was no sign of it this season
There should be no advantages, no matter what level player you are, I totally agree with that

When was the last time he arrived late to a meeting or practice or missed a curfew?

A couple beat reports have reported that Pickens still shows up late to stuff sometimes this year. Clarence Hill has mentioned it multiple times on DLLS cowboys. And again it’s no hate. Clarence Hill love Pickens.

It’s just kinda who Pickens is.

Good points Steve.

You have a link to any of those beat reports? I know he was guilty of this last year, but since? Unless you know for sure, you shouldn’t say for fact that he’s still doing it. JMHO.

I don’t have a link. Clarence reported it on the DLLS podcast. And I heard him say it multiple times over the course of training camp.

But I can’t remember the specific episode.

And I don’t think it was anything major. Just like ya know. A little bit late here and there. Likes Pickens is the dude that shows up 5 minutes late and everybody expects it because that’s just how he is with time type of thing.

Mind you. I think highly of Pickens and the fact he is playing under the tag drama free. And the dlls guys all love him as a player too. So it’s not really meant to be like a negative thing.

The reason I was asking is because I’ve had the same reservations about Pickens maturity level. I also remember he quit on a route or 2 last year. But since then, I haven’t heard anything else negative about him showing up late or missing meetings. And as you mentioned how he handled getting tagged and embracing the situation and embracing his teammates.

Apparently Shotty is the second coming with a 7-10 record. I’ve read as much from fans how this new culture is bringing us back to championship contention.

Some things never change. If only we could bring up some threads on how McCarthy with his experience and proven success was taking us back to the promise land . At least he had the credentials.

Our fanbase is so desperate . We are left with crowning ourselves champions before the season begins instead of waiting until afterwards. Same ole hype to me .

No one is crowning anyone. Having a positive objective concerning the projection of the team is okay. I am looking forward to seeing how the team develops with all of these changes.

There may have been isolated incidents last year but many adult fans consider negative reports as a totality of a person’s being.

I’ll say this about Blue, every preseason game I saw they constantly ran him up the middle, that is not his strength, I saw only one swing pass and it went for like 15-20 yards. i’m not losing any sleep over Blue, but he’s never going to be a tough inside runner.

as for Milton, cannon for an arm lacks the touch pass.

I’m totally on board with having a positive objective and looking forward to seeing how the team develops with all of the changes but unfortunately there is a segment of fans who have chosen to attach some predictions along with those . And why I’ve taken such a hard stance pushing back.

Being a fan around these parts is rough going. Either you don't fan hard enough or you fan too little.
