Jets extend HC Rex Ryan

Really, I didnt see that coming, I though maybe he would get a one year ext. but he is a good coach and did a fine jub this year.

I recall Donovan McNabb getting an extension as a show of faith only for it to bite the skins.

Not sure how a front office like the Jets can go from almost firing the guy (he even told the players he was pretty sure he was going to get fired) to now extending him.

Seems odd. I would have to guess the laid some laws down to what is going to change if he was going to stay or something to make them do a 180.

I'll admit I was completely wrong on this one.

I saw the Jets as a two-win team and Ryan as a soon-to-be-fired coach.

I think Rex is a clown and I hate how he runs his mouth all the time, but I think he's done a good job there. Two AFC Championship games with Mark Sanchez? That's pretty incredible.

And he went 8-8 this year with a very flawed rookie 2nd round pick at QB. Same as we did with Tony Romo. Kind of puts it in perspective.

Rex Ryan gets a lot of flack but this makes a lot of sense to me. There are really no better options right now.

He's a defensive guy and the defense is outstanding but they need to spend some money on the offense so they can be real contenders. Garrett is an offensive guy and the offense has sucked since 08 yet he continues to skate by.

Motivational locker room talk to get the guys to play.

With that defense, and with a new regime coming in and clearly having no love for Mark Sanchez (to include Rex, since he was drafted, if reports are to be believed) and it makes too much sense. He's a good coach. They just need to make some offensive investments.

Another instance of a guy getting a raise for doing nothing. Its become the culture of the NFL at this point. Especially for quarterbacks. And I like Rex. I just don't see how he warranted anything more than 1 year.

Didn't the owner come out shortly after the season end and say he was staying after the mediots were saying he was out?? I don't look at the length of contract as meaning much though...but seems to be confirmation of what was said a few weeks back.
