Jets; Ellis Reach Agreement --
Sun Nov 28, 2004 --from FFMastermind.com
The Star Ledger reports the Jets have reached an agreement in principle with Pro Bowl DE Shaun Ellis on a multi-year contract extension that'll paid him over $15 million in guaranteed money. Leigh Steinberg, Ellis' California-based agent, flew to Arizona yesterday and met with club officials to put the finishing touches on the deal, which is believed to be for seven years, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations. "It's done," the person said. "Ellis' guy (Steinberg) met with the Jets yesterday.
They want to keep it quiet because of the game (today) but it's done." In September, Ellis, 27, turned down a similar deal with the club, and talks cooled off. But the two sides resumed discussions and a deal has been struck. Reaching an agreement with Ellis is a big relief to the Jets, who face a busy off-season. Several key veterans, including DE John Abraham, DT Jason Ferguson, RB LaMont Jordan, TE Anthony Becht and ORT Kareem McKenzie become unrestricted free agents following the season.
