Jets’ Ryan ‘disrespected’ by Pats’ late deep throw

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr., AP Sports Writer 53 minutes ago

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP)—New York Jets coach Rex Ryan felt “disrespected” by the New England Patriots for throwing a deep pass with the game well in hand Sunday.

The Patriots were ahead 31-14 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Tom Brady(notes) threw long for Randy Moss(notes) on third-and-6 from their 45-yard line. The pass fell incomplete, but riled up Ryan.

“We need to stop them anyway, so it’s no biggie, but I was surprised, and I did feel a little bit disrespected,” Ryan said.

Ryan added that he didn’t know if Bill Belichick was behind the call, saying it might have been something Brady and Moss did on their own. The Jets coach was also asked if he thought perhaps maybe it was intended to be one final message to cornerback Darrelle Revis(notes), who has developed a rivalry with Moss.

“I looked at that as an opportunity for us,” Ryan said. “Throw it up deep, our guy is going to come down with it more than your guy is. If they want to throw it up to Revis, that’s great. If they would have thrown it up to (Wes) Welker again, I would have had a problem with it.”
Moss had five catches for 34 yards, while Welker had 15 receptions for 192 yards.

Ryan, who created controversy in the offseason when he said he didn’t come to New York to “kiss Bill Belichick’s rings,” said he called a timeout with 5 seconds left as a response to the Patriots’ play call.

Someone stated it best in the comments:

"Throwing it deep up 17 with 30 seconds to go is class? If it were baseball the next one would be high and tight. Class my ***. It'll come back to bite em'."

I cant stand the Pats, but Ryan talked enough crap before the season even started to last the rest of his coaching career.

You get what you deserve. The Pats got it in SB 42. The Jets got it in their last 7 games after starting 3-0.

lol.

Rex Ryan is a loser, check that a sore loser just like his dad.

Like laufenberg said about him yesterday, he has no respect for the position of head coach and the guys who have been coaches for a long time in the league and what they have done.

Its really enjoyable to watch the jets lose. I really dislike rex ryan.

The point remains though. Belicheat and Tom Shady are both classless individuals. I can't stand their smug looks as they are winning a game. I absolutely LOVE it when I see the disappointment in their eyes when, say, Belicheat goes for a dumb 4th down conversion and fails. The transformation from arrogance to defeat is a sight to behold.

I don't care for either coach.

One is a loud mouth arrogant coach, the other is as well but also a documented cheater.

Neither have class.

Who gives a crap if it pisses of Ryan? The dude talks loads of smack and is a lot like his father so he's going to have to expect that kind of stuff. He pretty much called the Patriots out with his offseason comment and so now he's going to deal with this sort of stuff on a yearly basis while he's there.

You remind me of the people who constantly criticized the Cowboys in the 90's. Same is true now as it was then; it's just jealousy speaking.

There's a difference in a good team, and one that constantly tries to run up the score, cheats, etc. You are mistaken, there is no jealousy. It's games where Brady tries to throw the most TD's in a quarter, and throwing with 30 seconds left in the game and up by 17 that leave a bad taste in my mouth. Seriously, did you even read any of this or are you just posting whatever pops in your head because you think you have some sort of inside knowledge of what I'm thinking?

It's all about sportsmanship for me, plain and simple.

I won't even bother with the whole cheating issue, but surely you can understand there is a difference between this team and other good teams. For example, you won't hear me say a bad word about the Colts because they are a classy organization.

Too bad so many people can't enjoy watching the Pats play, they are fun to watch.

Yet after our first loss you had half the board calling for Wade to get fired and Rex to be hired.

Crying Ryan, Belicheat only did to you what your daddy did to us. After having the game in hand to fake a kneel down then throw the bomb?

I will say smart move complaing about that to take the attention away from getting your butt kicked.

i don't understand people complaining about continuing to play when the game is won. as i said the last time this argument popped up the people who have paid their hard earned cash to go to the game deserve to see 60 minutes of football, not say 45 minutes of football and fifteen minutes of going through the motions so as not to hurt the other teams feelings.
