Former Cowboys linebacker Lee Roy Jordan was a rookie at the time of President Kennedy's death.
The former Cowboys linebacker reflects on the 50-year anniversary of the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy:

“I came out and got in my car that morning and started to go to the training room and it was all over the news. They’re chasing Lee Harvey Oswald downtown. He shot the president. It was just an unbelievable shock and feeling that you had when you hear something like that. I wasn’t at [the facility] yet because I had been injured two or three weeks before and I was just going in for rehab and stuff. I was on my way to the training room to get rehab work done on my body. I had punctured a kidney two or three weeks before and was out for the rest of the season.

“Everybody was just in shock that it could happen. Coach [Tom] Landry was the same way. He just couldn’t believe this could happen in our country, much less our city."

I don't remember much about how the NFL reacted from memory or from the Boys. In fact I didn't become a fan until the draft coming that December; which BTW will be my 50th anniversary as a Cowboys' fan. Would love to hear some stories about the Cowboys that November from you 'old timers'; if you can actually remember. :) There are in fact several people here older than me! :)

Loved Lee Roy, he played with heart and soul. Not like some of the cupcakes we have on this team now.

I've been wantig to post a thread and ask does anyone remeber a cowboy player being carried by 2 steeler plyers? I was about 8-9 years old and dont have a great memory about it. Ive googled it and come up with nothing but best I can remember they had the player by heads and foot? It's been so long ago I dont know the game but it may have ben one of the super bowls they plyed ther steelers in. I remember it plain as day but I aint sure when or what the situation was. Sounds like you might be OLD enough to remeber.? LOL
If ANYONE could jog my m3emory that would be great.

i was listening to the legends show a couple of days ago, mickey and greg had pettis norman on the show. he had some good stories about the whole thing. he said the political climate in dallas at the time was volatile. although many cheered jfk on the streets of dwtn dallas, there were folks who did not want him to come to dallas. pettis said the players were out on the practice field at the old practice facility off central by smu when a trainer came running out and told the players what had happened. ironically pettis and another player were having a discussion just minutes before about what would happen if somebody tried to hurt/kill the president so they were in complete shock when the hypothetical they were literally just discussing became reality. all the players ran inside and listened to the radio all day. there was a real sadness and shock around the team the rest of the day (especially when they finally found out jfk had passed). pettis said the weather ominously started changing for the worse as the day went on. he said a lot of the players thought the following game should be cancelled but much to their surprise the nfl did not cancel the game. many players on the team disagreed with this decision. for the next few weeks/months, cowboys players were treating like crap at road games. the image of the city took a big hit and many of the players felt the wrath from opposing fans/cities. pettis even mentioned not being served at restaurants b/c they were DALLAS cowboys.

There's a vid on DC.com of Gil Brandt walking through downtown and talking about those things as well. Good stuff.

The memory is almost 40 years old now so it might be more in my head than it actually was on the field but it's been stuck there all these years. the only thing I can think of is they were trying to keep him from touching the ground so he wouldn't be down. Before forward progress rule. It's probably like one of those movies you liked when your a kid and you watch it again when your older and realize it sucked.

Okay, I understand better. I was thinking they were moving an injured player which didn't compute.
