JG as HC just a smoke screen for JJ?

Let's think about this realistically for a minute.

We know that JJ loves to be the center of attention and keep the media attention all on him and this week is the biggest media week of all.

We know that JG is very bright and well thought of in the league.
Maybe JJ started the HC stuff for JG for the 'Fins part of the equation.

JG is considered a HC candidate down the road so why not let him interview now so he can see what it's like and get his feet wet.

If JJ wanted or had already talked to Wade or Norv they would have already been hired by now. I know it's only been a couple of days but the new HC is getting behind the 8 ball more and more as I type. Both have expressed interst in the job.

My feeling is that he (JJ) wants someone to mentor Romo. JG as a new head coach in the league would not have time to do that.

So he hires JG to be the OC and mentor Romo. He still needs a HC and DC. He could hire Norv and have him bring his own DC (Singletary - Hopefully). But if that was the plan why hasn't he done it so he could get started.

If Phillips was to be the HC and bring one of his guys to be the DC (Manusky) then why hasn't he done that so that they could get rolling?

Rex Ryan could be in the mix but he is available now so what would he be waiting on?

Lovie probably won't get loose from the Bears so that brings us full circle to Ron Rivera.

JJ may hope that JG will be ready to be a HC in 2-3 yrs. but I doubt he made all that money by putting all of his eggs in one basket that may have a hole in it.

So that's my guess. JJ is waiting til after the Super Bowl to interview Rivera for the HC job and hedge his bet down the road with JG after he's done mentoring Romo. If RR works out great and JG gets swooped up by another then we still have our HC.

Fire away.

I dont think Rivera is going to be our HC.

Problem is why would Rivera want to be HC with Garrett waiting in the wings. The first time we hit a losing streak the fans will be screaming for Garrett.

Rivera knows that one and done in the playoffs means his job also. So why would Rivera come to a situation where he knows he has to make 2nd round of playoffs at a min to fend off the guy looking over his shoulder?

Dont get me wrong, I love the Garrett hire. He is going to be great working with Romo, I just dont see why Rivera would leave the Bears for a "must win" situation.

Am I wrong here guys???

I don't know. You could be right. But RR will not be the HC as long as LS is around and he's already said he'd love to coach the Boys.

I think we are taking for granted that JG is "waiting in the wings"

All coaches want to be Head coach (at least most) there is no way that if Rivera came in and did a good job that Jerry would replace him. (unless their was a personal fallout like with Jimmy)

Rivera knows that he does his job he will be rewarded .... heck Bill got 20 mil for going a little over 500.

Jerry has never been a cheapskate.

Jerry may be hedging his bet like some on here are saying, which is not a bad move either. What if Garrett totally blows (I dont believe this myself, I think he will be great, but hypothetically speaking) then we tied our cart to the wrong horse and are screwed.

If Rivera is brought in, the odds of both him and Garrett both blowing are not very high, so this may be what Jerry is thinking.

I dont know, lots of moving parts right now as Tuna used to say!!!

Dallas' situation isn't a full blown rebuilding project like most head coaching hires enter.

This is a team with talent on both sides of the ball, that is young, and just needs that spark to take that next step...with all our warts we were better than Seattle, who gave the Bears all they could handle, who beat the Saints, so one could argue we were a botched hold away from a SB right now.

With Jerry always willing to write checks, a hungry Romo and defense with something to prove, I can't think of a better situation to walk into...regardless of Garrett in the wings.

I agree. Most new HC's are walking into a situation like Payton did wtih the 3-13 Saints last year or this year w/ Kiffen and the Raiders.

Any new head coach would love our groceries. I would think.

Rivera would want to be our HC because we're the team with the best opportunity to come in and have instant success.

If he has that he wouldn't need to worry about Garrett. If he goes 12-4 the next 3 years and wins a Super Bowl his job is set in stone.

He's a football coach, not a jealous girlfriend.

Why would any coach want to come to Dallas if they know Garrett is going to be the guy in a few years?

Do people even read a thread before they ask a question?

I like how you put that little $ sign on the end of reason. Pretty tricky.;)
