Long story short: Stubborn and Stupid
@charron
Quality response. Thank you.
I am not suggesting we forgo working out the fundamentals. These guys are athletes and they need to ensure their bio machines are in top working order each and every week to prevent serious injury.
I am not saying that a slight few changes, ie better execution, wouldn’t have made a difference. Shoot, a better call by an official would have us winning by two instead of losing. The chips fall where they will.
What I am saying is week after week (after week 3) I see the SAME schemes getting easily read and beat on both offense and defense.
Which leads me to draw the conclusion that maybe his generic speech for media only... is ACTUALLY what he thinks!!
“The Cowboys will win because we are the Cowboys and will out execute you.”
I want to see different Defenses face off against run or pass offenses. And I want to see our creative offense from Week 1-3.
Our team is not a talentless joke, it is a coach less joke.
If that was the case then why would most teams pay their QB top money? Every team is dependant on their QB ability to make some plays. The better the defense the less your QB has to do, the better talent around the QB the easier it is for him to help make some plays. Sometimes backups have ability to make plays in the right situations.

I agree. Our offense is better than people think. On the surface it looks like a dumpster fire but if you dissect it, there are good things happening. And near misses all over that would change outcomes of games, like all 3 previous games!!!Offensively we are ok. Where Garrett needs to interject more is making the defense change what they are doing. For the most part we are making adjustments at half and playing pretty well in the 2nd half but they need to play better in the 1st to get a win. An early TD, an early stop would go a long way.

But the bend don’t break defense can only work from a LEAD! If you don’t have one you need to play aggressive Defense. There is no such thing as losing MORE! (Yes, I know it could lead to a blowout which is arguably losing more.) BUT- a loss is a loss. Play aggressive D and get the ball back in the hands of the offense. Or god forbid even a pick 6.
Two major things that I never want to see again on our defense:
1: On a third and long our DBs lined up AT the first down marker and immediately back pedal PAST IT!!!
2: A CB going up to defend a pass with their back, head, and butt to the ball!!! SPOT THE BALL AND MAKE A PLAY ON THE BALL!!!
Oh, I'm not at all implying that not having your top QB doesn't make things incredibly difficult. But most other coaches and specifically those that are good are able to scheme backups into advantageous situations. Payton did this expertly against us just a couple of weeks back and currently has the team 4-0 with an underwhelming Bridgewater replacing Brees.
Garrett doesn't seem to be able to scheme us out of disadvantageous positions due to injury at any position (QB included). An injury or two and the house of cards seems to fall apart far too often where other teams are able to scheme around this.
My hope is that adjustments are being made and players are executing to steal the term from JG.Big question for me is what are we doing in the 2nd vs the 1st. held miami to 0, held jets to 3, held saints to 3 all in the 2nd half so what was the difference? Scheme adjustment, just played better? some kind of instant roid...i dunno.
LOVE THIS!!!A big part in being unable to execute is your opponent preventing you.
Bridgewater is a high draft pick who would start for atleast 1/3 of teams. But look at what undrafted rookies are doing with the steelers, jags, panthers and the common theme is good defense. Those QB's aren't winning by themselves when they win their defense is playing at a much higher level then we are. Go look at McVay's rams. Did mcvay forget to scheme anyone? or did their defense regress and now their offense can not dominate enough to win games.
The Rams are a little different situation IMO. Goff has never been good (IMO) but McVay's innovative offense covered up his warts until teams started to figure out how to force him rather than McVay in his ear into making decisions. Also, Gurley is a complete shell of his former self and as you said the defense has regressed.
In general, our team is affected much more it seems than others over the past few years when even non-QBs are missing (Tyron Smith, Sean Lee 2 years ago, Cooper and the tackles on Sunday, etc). It's not black and white, of course, but I think our staff comes up short in minimizing the backups' vulnerabilities.
not to make this about the quarterback but that's a big part of why we do not succeed when backups are playing with him vs. When you have a really talented player at the skill positions. He does not elevate the level of play of those around him they elevate his play. part of that is also on the wide receivers or they're just not good enough that when he is off a little bit they can't make up for for being off and they're not catching those balls even though their hands are getting on the ball.
I don't think Dak is Mahomes or Rodgers which makes the contract situation difficult. But I do believe he is a good QB who is getting better. Hard to let a good QB go when we've seen how hard it is to even secure even a halfway decent one even if he's not a top 5 type.
