Aww. Sad to hear that. I have read stories about his little son that had some rare disease & I believe he passed away. So that family is equipped to fight the hard fights. I sure hope he is 100% soon.

Yeah, he really does seem like a good guy. It's too bad the Bills couldn't have won one of those 4 Super Bowls (like one of the first 2, of course!)

Horrible. This is one of my favorite non Cowboys. Has had his share of tragedy off the field.

This guy has had some tough breaks. Cancer 2x, son that was sick and passed, almost killed in a plane crash. I read an article with him recently where he said he thinks the heartbreak he had with the Bills (4 straight SB losses) was preparing him to deal with much more.

Cool story...

Last year, my former company quoted on a metal/plastic money clip for some individual from Buffalo. I live about 70 minutes south of there. These money clips were to have printed logos which included the NFL, MLB, etc. Once the business was awarded, we were informed the individual behind this new product was Jim Kelly. He wanted to avoid companies low-balling the quote because of his name. We were given a heads-up the day before he was coming in to tour the facility and to meet on the project. Of course, I woke up that morning, ditched the collared shirt and threw on my Charles Haley jersey. I working away in my office when I looked up and saw him in the plant. I jumped up and took a walk. I didn't want to be "that guy" and run up to him and introduce myself. As I walked past him, I hear.."Hey you!!!" I turned around and he was flipping me off. LOL We talked for 15 minutes about the Super Bowls against the Cowboys. He was awesome. I'm 6'4" & 230 pounds so he said he wouldn't hurt me for my choice of NFL teams but if I was smaller....:)

Living where I do, I'm surrounded by mostly Steeler fans. We had one guy who had his office decorated in black and gold, wall to wall. I guess Kelly walked out of the meeting to use the restroom. He passed this guys office and said, "Hey, I have to use the crapper (but a step up from that), can I use that Terrible Towel to wipe my (*(&#!"?

The guy is a class act and really down to earth. I could have sat and listened to his stories for weeks. He keeps in weekly contact with the president of the company as they have become friends. I have since moved on and up from there but I'll ask one of my former Engineers what the scoop is from Kelly regarding the cancer. Hope it was caught early.

Sorry to bore you!!!

Just got word that he told the president that they caught it early but it doesn't look good. Feel bad for the guy.

I read this morning where his cancer has spread.

It's very sad. He seems like a very cool guy. Here's hoping he recovers! He is a fighter.

What a wild ride this man's life has been.

So blessed and so very cursed, all rolled in one possibly abbreviated lifetime.

As for his 4 SBs but no wins; he has some classic examples of just how much this is a team game and how silly legacy can be based sometimes on things out of your control.

All Buffalo had to do was make the game winning field goal vs the Giants and he is a SB bowl winner. His kicker misses the kick and instead, Parcels and the Giants win a SB.
One missed kick...at least that play had zero to do with Kelly and zero to do with Parcells or any of the Giants. But words like genius and clutch (or not clutch) get thrown around randomly as a result. Just one missed FG.
