Johnson was one of the two best head coaches any franchise could have ever had. Unfortunately, no one is perfect. Some tasks are simply beyond the capabilities of mortals.

I’ve never heard anyone slander Jimmy. I’m sure there’s been 1 or 2 but I didn’t see it. I don’t see any Jerry slobberers either. No one thinks he’s a good at what he does. So not sure where you’re coming from other than you’re hallucinating thinking of some reason to diss anyone but a hater like yourself.

To be fair Jones did hire Jimmy so at minimum we have to give him credit for finding 1 great coach. If Jones didn't buy the team and bring in Jimmy are the Cowboys still the team of the 90s. What do the next couple decades look like, etc.

He moved on from some aging players, which was a problem for Landry. Cleaning house caused the team to take a step back the first year under Jimmy. The team was real young and didn’t have enough experience. What ultimately turned the team around was Troy Aikman panning out along with a number of other players at key positions. Trading for Charles Haley was a huge addition. Plus the players feared Jimmy who kept everyone in line.

He had the team ready to play every week. You could tell Jimmy was on a mission to win a championship when he arrived. It was clear it was his team from day one. He was in total control of the football side of things. We could only wish it was like that with the Cowboys these days.

That’s where Jerry deserves a lot of credit, bringing in Jimmy and allowing him to run the football side of things. He allowed him to be the unofficial GM. I argued with a fan a couple of years ago who claimed he would give up all three of the Cowboys Super Bowl wins in the 90s just to get rid of Jerry. As much as some fans hate Jerry, no one could be that ridiculous. It certainly hasn’t been very good the last 30 years but those early to mid 90s were as good as it gets. Never thought I would witness anything like that with the Cowboys, especially when they hit rock bottom in 88 and 89.

Jimmy was a great coach, but the talent on that roster was staggering. I don't buy the touchy/feely garbage. His teams had players. Good coaching + good players = wins.

Well, he (and Jerry) created a lot more opportunity to eliminate the bad and bring in the good. They had 15 drafts picks in 1989 (five in the first three rounds), 18 in 1991 (seven in the first three rounds) and 15 in 1992 (six in the first three rounds). They also did well getting some players in their trades and using Plan B free agency.

It's tougher to eliminate the bad and replace them with good these days, especially when your use of free agency is limited.
