I dont want to beat a dead bush to death but watching him on the half time show just rushed thoughts through my mind....To me he seemed to get very excited about us playing JAX in the first game. Which leads me to the question everyone has wondered... Would he ever come back to coach the Cowboys.. If Parcells and Owens clash, I truly believe that the only one that could coach TO is Jimmy. So could he and Jones make up and let him win two or three more Super Bowls and keep us on top?? I hate to bring all this up with the season a month away, but if this team doesnt perform like it should I think that Parcells retires...SO let me have it..Tell me how you really feel....lol...:starspin

Maybe if Dallas relocates to south Florida?

Jimmy was a great coach, but he was surrounded with great coaches also. He was not so successful without them.

Just like another coach we may know of....;)

So noshame, does that mean you buy into the skin's approach...a la...coaching can make THE difference? Jimmy's success with the Cowboys came from the ability to coach, surround himself with good coaches but most importantly, he was well positioned to know where the talent was in the college ranks. The NFL is a talent acquisition business and I'm not sure Jimmy would be as well positioned today to accomplish that. I remain on the Charlie Weis bandwagon, for a number of reasons. I say no to Jimmy.

Coaches that win three (that's right, I said it Sooner fans) super bowls will always die hard as legends.
Ummm which coaches would that be Bill and Jimmy only have two.

Sure let's bring back Jimmy and spend another 3 or 4 years rebuilding the team.

Jimmy had 4. Switzer ruined one and took credit for another. ;) But I refuse to believe him.

Sorry to rain on your parade but we didn't go to the SB 4 times and I agree Switzer's SB should go to Jimmy.

Once you leave you cannot come back.

Jimmy was great, but its time to move on.

I think Parcells is great, and would love to see him here for a long time, but the reality is that he is here for 2 years max (depending on this season). Hopefully we can get someone like Weiss or Stoops in Dallas.

Let's remember that Jimmy did not have the same success with the Dolphins as he had with the Cowboys. Let's also remember that he was surrounded by "The Triplets", and he knew Troy, Emmitt, and Irvin quite well while he was a college coach. He tried to recruit Emmitt to Miami, and he coached Irvin in college, though Irvin was drafted by Dallas before JJ came to Big D.

Jimmy was in tune with the collegiate prospects in the early 90's. He lost that in depth knowledge later in the decade as he left Dallas and eventually went to Miami.

Jimmy is now more out of tune than he has ever been in the past as far as the college game is concerned, and the draft is critical these days.

Let's let Jimmy continue to rest on the beach in the Florida keys.

Maybe someone LIKE Jimmy Johnson, i.e., a ballsy, winning college coach. Any of those guys out there now?

Good point, but when Jimmah walked into Valley Ranch, he was like a kid on Christmas morning. He had every imaginable thing a coach could want. The number one pick in the draft, a future filled with multiple first, second and third round picks, an owner whom expense didnt matter to, and the knowledge of all the best college players that few new NFL coaches have with which to use in drafting.

He had to make the most of the opportunity, which he did, but he certainly didnt have to dig, scrape and crawl for the good players he got.

He STILL had to make the lemonade.

I agree with HeavyHitta31 and also Jimmy40 that we should really be thankful of Minnesota's front office at the time, and Switzer did indeed, inherit the keys to the team and Switzer merely went along for the ride.

I think its funny how Jimmy gets less and less credit as more and more time goes by...

why? because of Herschel? #1's? etc...

just because he didnt have success in Miami doesnt mean he cant coach or he couldnt still coach.... in Miami he had Marino, big deal, never did anything but set INDIVIDUAL records...

so what about Belichek? no success in Cleveland and now a genius? same as Jimmy but in reverse... had his success on 2nd go round...

with that said I dont want Jimmy back in Dallas... just had to point out some things...

Never say never...If Gibbs can do it so can Jimmy. And I would be very Happy if he did.

That being said I don't think it really will ever happen and even if he did it would be incredibly hard to capture lightning in a bottle twice.

A question to those salivating over Jimmy Johnson possibly returning:

What on earth would he do with this defensive football team which is completely the opposite of the one he built?

Well I really wasnt trying to stir up a hornets nest, I just wanted to see the reactions...Someone asked about the Defense, how would Jimmy Handle it..Well I believe our defense if needed could switch right over to the 4-3. Yeh were a little bigger but they are just as fast. The rotation and depth would match that of what he had. Ware could be his Haley, Spears and Canty in the middle with Ellis on the sides. We have plenty of LB's so for that argument our defense would be just fine.

Another poster asked about a Jimmy Clone (if you will) thats up tempo and ballsy, I really dont know of one but someone I would consider is the HC of Iowa..I think he will be a good one and will be looked at heavily following the end of the college season.

I dont want Parcells to leave but I would be fooling myself to think that he wont. Maybe someone is already here waiting in the wings, Like Zimmer or Haley. I just dont want the Switzer, Gailey, Campo years to come back.
