Between the jokes about betting on the games and how weak the attendance was, this doesn't surprise me. He basically was making the product look bad. Can't have that.

They need to stop interviewing celebrities during the game. Nobody cares, we just want to watch the frickin game. And if you aren't talking about the game, or football, just shut up.

It took Jimmy Kimmel a matter of 10 minutes to do what Dennis Miller needed two years to accomplish — getting the heave-ho from "Monday Night Football."
ESPN will no longer allow Kimmel any guest appearances on MNF after the ABC late-night host made several jokes about recently-fired analyst Joe Theismann, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
Kimmel, who joined Mike Tirico, Tony Kornheiser and Ron Jaworski in the booth during the third quarter of the Giants' 31-10 win over the Falcons, joked about where Theismann was, insinuated that Kornheiser got Theismann fired (their on-air chemistry was often a topic of debate last season), and later remarked, "I'd also like to welcome Joe Theismann, watching from his living room with steam coming from his ears."
Kimmel's comments were "classless and disappointing," said Jay Rothman, ESPN's MNF producer, according to the Times. "It was cheap. The more he went on, the worse he got."
Rothman then affirmed that Kimmel would not be invited back.
Reached by the Times, Theismann said he was more amused than annoyed by Kimmel's comments.
"I don't have an opinion about what people say, but it's nice to know you're missed," Theismann said. "It's interesting that people remember me."
Theismann later added that MNF "has become Tony Kornheiser's show."

It made more sense on NBC when the guest was there to plug a new program of theirs on NBC or something. But ESPN is doing it merely out of tradition or something. It always detracts from the focus of the game and is an annoyance that needs to go all together.

BehindEnemyLinez;1717459 said:Shoot, what has to be done to get Kornheiser and Jaws banned? What a terrible broadcasting team they have this season! Get a real color man in there and enough with the comedian/sportswriter experiment...it doesn't work! :bang2:
InmanRoshi;1717594 said:Because ESPN is a sister station of ABC, and both are owned by Disney. Disney paid a lot of money for those football television rights, and they're fully going to take advantage of a captive adult male 18-to-49 demographic audience (the most elusive and coveted of them all) to market to and cross promote.
Billy Bullocks;1717606 said:ESPN is such a joke. The Fox "News" of Sports "News". At least the "big time" programs. At least ESPNews gives you the story, and not much else.
Why people continue to watch ESPN's horrendous coverage of all sports is absolutely baffling.
thekavorka;1717612 said:They never did this stuff when MNF was on ABC (which would have made a lot more sense if they wanted to cross promote).
InmanRoshi;1717619 said:Maddens and Michael probably had enough pull to keep guests out of the booth, but they still did lots of cross promotion. Remember the big ruckus with the MNF pre-game bit with the Desperate Housewives girl dropping her towel for T.O.?
