I'm really surprised to hear that he was hired as not only our wide receivers coach, but also our assistant head coach.

I wonder if he gets the full title of offensive coordinator next year.

I'm happy. He got good results for Green Bay and I think he'll do pretty good here.

Not only that but I have confidence in anyone Garrett hires.

From what i can tell he has gotten good results everywhere he has been.

Not unless running the offense and the show prove too much for Garrett.

I just hope Robinson has some input that can refine some of the things Garrett is doing. He needs someone to be his eyes on offense and who's not afraid to tell him when changes need to be made.

Don't know if Robinson's the guy for that, but I would hope there's a reason he was named "assistant head coach."

Doesn't he have to be hired with a promotion? He can't make a lateral move?

I'm not saying he isn't AHC material, just wondering..........

No.

For one thing, his contract was up, so he could go anywhere he wanted with any title.

That might have been a selling point for leaving GB, though.

From what I'm hearing from some Green bay fans they aren't exactly devastated he is gone. Dropped balls seemed to be an issue up there. I mean, they seem to hate to see him go, but don't take it as a huge blow to the team.

Are coaches really getting the blame for dropped balls? :laugh1:

With the transition from Sherman to Jimmy Robinson, the development of Dez Bryant continues and intensifies. With the relative inactivity by Dez over the past two seasons, he needs this level of instruction.

its interesting to me that robinson is the assistant head coach.

The wr position is where all the chirping has come from and most of it if not all has been trying to pass the buck to garrett when they have made mistakes. Roy williams is the only one left of the three that did it in owens, crayton and williams.

so now with the wr coach also the asst head coach and a garrett guy williams might think twice before opening his mouth.

and this to me would explain yet again why sherman was run. If he wasnt putting an end to this nonsense he was part of it. And he was held responsible and is not here.

and now someone of the same cailber is here coaching the wr and he is a disciplinarian like garrett and on board.

amen.

I think you are putting far too much emphasis on that title. We used that title and likely a nice salary bump to recruit him. Assistant HC looks good on a resume -- BP gave the title to Zimmer after he turned down a HC position (college). I think and said something to the effect of "some guys feel they need that title"

You can be sure that title was part of the offer we planned for Horton as well. It is a recruitment tool and likely indicates very little about who is in charge.

I think we all can be sure that when it come to understanding who is Garrett's "right hand guy" that you need to look no further than his brother.

The title merely justifies the salary bump when compared to other assistant level coaches in case someone (on the outside mainly, such as media or other teams) wonders why he is getting paid more than some other assistant with no extra title. I doubt an old timer like Robinson needs a title.

The hire is seemingly what Garrett wanted all along, and if so, would explain why Sherman was let go so early (I recall an article or two asking why this was); one, to be fair to Sherman so he could find a job, and two, because Garrett knew he wanted Robinson.

they probably gave him that title because that is how much he thinks of him. I think it has come out since the season ended that garretts right hand man is houck apparently.

I agree horton probably would have had that title, it probably would have taken something like that to get him since he had a coordinators job offered to him. I am not so sure that is the case with getting robinson.

No, they probably gave him the title b/c they were keeping it in their back pocket to recruit a top assistant from another team - we hadn't used it, likely held it in check to recruit Horton, and when that failed, used it to pry Robinson from a SB winner. Keep in mind that Robinson was still under contract, so although GB could still have denied him the chance to leave, they knew they couldn't offer a similar title (Winston Moss has that) and the sort of raise Dallas was giving (they could match $ but not title). Again, they didn't have to let him go, but good teams do let their guys make moves that advance their careers.
