it takes to take the next step.

Clearly, that's one of the reasons BP didn't retire. BP is taking one more shot.

IMO, if JJ does what he means, that means he's going to have to shell out some serious money once again this off-season in the FA market.

I think to "go for it", we're going to have to pick up several, if not all, of these key positions in FA.

1. Kicker. We all know there are several who should be available.
2. FS. There should be several available in FA (Hope, Dex Jackson, Chavous, etc.)
3. At least 1 OL (either RT or Center).
4. One more defensive player, either a LB or a big DT to rotate with Fergy.

In the Draft we can pick up one more young WR to groom, either a LB or run stuffing DT (whichever position we didn't pick up in FA), and one more OL (either a OT or C/G, depending what we didn't pick up in FA).

The way I see it, I think we need to likely pick up at least 4 quality FA this off-season, plus hit on several picks in the Draft, to really "go for it".

If we could pick up 5 FAs in the off-season (either the run stuffing DT or a second OL), it would really take the pressure off in the Draft, and we would not be pressed to draft for need (which is always a concern).

But in my opinion, that's what it means to "go for it" (i.e., JJ) and take one last shot (in BP's case).

Two words: salary cap.

We'll go for it but don't expect every top FA signed.

I think we'll have sufficient room under the salary cap to get at least 4 quality FAs.

Good post. I hope you have correctly interpreted his statement.

I hope so too.

But otherwise I'm not sure if BP would have stuck around if he didn't think he could make one more trip to the Super Bowl (or atleast late into the playoffs).

I just hope JJ has long from his past mistake. Is one thing to be aggressive, but is another to be reckless with spending FA money.

jerr is a gambling man from way back, and he knows better than anyone that with a kicker, a FS and a dominant Center or RT, we could be in Detroit right now. we're that close... i believe he will say "screw the future" and go for broke - screw the consequences of cap hell if it buys you a team that can compete for a couple years. he has the coach, the basic defense, the QB and RB - he'll shell out for whatever groceries Bill needs, trust me. spare no expense Bill - make it so...

The best route to go, IMO, is sign an ILB with 3-4 experience, RT, FS and kicker in free agency.

Spend the first pick on a play making OLB, #2 on a LT to groom behind Flo, #3 on either a WR or NT. Day two look at DT/DE tweeners, DE/OLB tweeners and guard.

I could not agree more.

I would be very surprised if BP drafts an OL. The win now mode dictates experience at RT.

Always loved when players came out and said things like this. It sure gets the fans all hyped up.

Well I would hope he kinda "goes for it". It's either that or wait around another 7 years or so and hope Tags calls him up and says "Ok Jerry, it's your turn to go to the show again... we just take turns now and every other NFC team has been there since you were there last... so make your reservations".

I agree with your post. The draft to me wil depict how we do in the draft

the more needs we we satisfy in FA, the better our draft will be. instead of drafting on what we need we can draft the BPA.

The thing i see in Jerry is now that he has the winning tase in his mouth he wants it moer, after last year's fall out, he understood te check needs to open, and he proved it last year, now he's doing it again this year, and this time SB champs will come out of it
