Bottom line: the diff between the 4 pick and the 15 pick last year was about 9 million dollars in guaranteed money. That is the "slot" more or less under the contract between players and union I believe. That was the contract last year, it has only gone up a little I'm sure since then ... I haven't kept up with the capologists here but for sure it ain't gone down. Not as smart as you guys, I'm just a part-time fan, maybe you guys can correct me. Pardon me if this topic has been brought up recently here .. I couldn't find it lately ..
Amari Cooper at 4 pick last year got 14.8 mil signing bonus. Melvin Gordon at 15 pick last year got 6 mil signing bonus.
I know it ain't much money in the main for Jerry, but he is still up in the middle of the night mad about what he paid Mo Claiborne. For someone unproven.
Cowboys under JJ have a history of trade downs, in part this is why.
Unproven is the operative word .. Jerry and Stephen are thinking the same thing in the middle of the night these next few weeks.
Jerry and Stephen are grilling scouts these next few weeks: Is this player we might get at the 4th pick .. nine or 10 million dollars better than the player we can get at 15, they are asking?.. Of course if we get a 2nd round pick to trade down or a 3 and/or 4 pick or even (tears) a 5 pick to trade down even fewer picks from 4 to say 9 then those bonuses/guaranteed money of the 2 or 3 (or 4th round picks do they get anything guaranteed anyway?) are pretty minuscule bonuses. They don't add up, won't add up to 9 million for the privilege of trading down. Cheap by comparison.
The recent note on BTB shows teams losing points on trades by trading down in the first round. Oh yeah no lie, I would do it too, to save millions, when A vs. B comes up in the draft room and no one can say that B is going to be better than A, for sure.
I write this cause of talk that the Titans may want to move up out of the 15th pick all of a sudden and have lots of ammunition to pay whoever wants to play with them, including Cowboys, who might get any dang thing for Tunsil at the 4 pick with teams like the Titans that want to play ball with us while they are drinking champagne in their draft room .. They might get drunk ..
