JJ Watt : I played 3 games. This list is a joke

He's right. The premise is supposed to be yearly ranks. I remembers when Peyton was like #50 or something after he missed the entire season which that one is almost justifiable.

The entire top 100 players list is designed to do one thing. Generate football talk when there is very lttle news in the middle of the off season. Why do you think they only release 10 names each week? To stretch out the talk/debate about players for several weeks.

I agree and disagree with Watt. lol

He is a top DE in the league, period. Even though he only played in 3 games last year, everyone still will list him very highly if you asked who are the top DE's of 2016, unless you look at it from a purely statistical standpoint.

To be honest, I haven't watched the show, minus clips online of Cowboy/Dolphin players ranked, so what is the criteria of making the list?
For established players like Watt, it's tough to leave them off a list of the top 100 even when they have a very short season, cause, they are a top 100 player when on the field.

Im not a Watt fan but I agree with him.

They spend a few minutes honoring a guy for what he did that year and being one of the best players.

Someone much more deserving gets knocked off the list for a guy that the NFL just wants to throw in our face some more.

Show some respect to the guys that play this game and stop calling a guy that played 3 games a top 100 player.

I've never been a fan of their silly list, but thought the list was a current ranking.
Sure, if you had a great year last year that'd come into play.
But I thought it was at least supposed to be how good the players (or those that chose to fill out the form) think you are today.

♫ dun dun dada...dun dun dada ♫ ...."the List!"...

The NFL Top 100 is described as how you rank current NFL players for the upcoming 2017 season.

Watt, like probably the majority of the players (vast majority who have never voted) does not know the voting criteria.

Do you think right now, for the 2017 season, JJ Watt is a top player? If so, then vote him there.. Those are the rules for this list.

Yeah!! This is only a PR game. Its great publicity for the NFL...nothing more and nothing less... any popularity contest is purely political and not to be taken seriously.

The list isn't based solely on each players 2016 performance. JJ Watts has a body of work that justifies his ranking.

I bet you another avatar change that Watt is out for at least 6 games this season :D

Good for Watt. Add fundamental structure and rules to any survey and it will generate more knowledgeable results. On the other hand, the NFL Top 100 has been and will always be logically unsound under its current format.

The annual list event has been done for awhile now. Wonder if an increasing number of players will criticize its legitimacy with each passing year?

I, for one, sure hope so.

The NFL just needs to accept the fact that from the draft until the beginning of training camp it is a true off season. There isn't anything they can do to keep their league relevant 365 days a year. Fans are ok with that.
