I'm not really sure what the hell is going on... but I do remember Bill Parcells in a press conference after the Colts game saying something to the effect of "I spoke to Julius after the play [where he ran straight into a safety when he could have made a juke/cut and gotten 15 or more yards].. I asked him what happened there? and Julius said he didn't see him, he was looking somewhere else"

I suspect that some of his 'Vision' challenges are related to below:

4. He is worried about fumbling so he is always protecting the ball and is not looking down field since he is focused on seeing the guys that may tackle him and strip the ball.

Make mine #3.

I think Julius is so focused on "getting the yardage that is there the way the play is designed" that he turns away from holes with more potential.

I'm not sure you can have "the yardage that is there" and the "home run potential" in one Julius Jones package. Julius strength is not as a tackle breaker. Julius is getting that extra yard or two BP desires but in the process is losing the breakaway potential.

Yeah, MBIII is giving us major production. I also am wary of thinking he could produce similar production outside his current role a la Hambrick.

Sure seems like there isn't much there for Julius to work with, and when there is, he passes it up if its not specifically where the play was designed to go.

I'm not convinced there is much future in a BP & Julius combo. I've never thought Julius was the next Dorsett or Emmitt but I think he can be more productive than how he's playing for BP. Too bad.

I also agree that Julius has very little patience for blocking but may be in part because he feels he's being coached to "take what's there".

I have to concur. JuJo just seems to like to run into walls. Lack of vision or at least a lack of confidence to bounce a play from it's original target. It can't be a coincidence that MBIII's ypc is so much higher and remember a lot of his carries are one yarders for touchdowns yet it's still considerably high. To compare him to Hambone is ridiculous. Hammy was a change of pace for a soon too be retiring warrior. At that time he had more speed and fresher legs. I just think that MBIII is a better back than Hammy could dream of being and better than Jones is right now. I think Jones will have a hard time holding on not only to his position next season but to his roster spot. Either via a trade or the draft or maybe the improvement of one of the youngster's (Green, Thompson) Jones will become expendable. Speed has never been something that BP has held in too high of regard. Ottis Anderson, Curtis Martin. A good hard runner who is smart and blocks rank high to Bill and of course who doesn't fumble.

For those of you saying 'it ain't broke'.

Take note:
1. This isn't about Barber versus Jones.
2. I am not advocating a change in the 'system'.

Read my post and answer the question please or don't post at all. This isn't a 'Play Barber More' thread.
Thanks for playing

Sorry it may not have been your intent but it naturally evolves into a thread comparing the skills of one versus the other. But 3 would be my vote.

And MBIII does a better job of catching the ball. JuJo isn't bad at it but MBIII is better.

I think the question in the offseason becomes.....
Does JJ offer you anything more than Tyson Thompson?
TT seems to be able to do at least all that JJ is doing for us. The only thing that I can think of is if JJ picks up the blitz and blocks better....

IF that is the case, why not try to trade JJ and pick up a hidden gem in the draft?

While Jones may have more straight ahead speed, and is said to be more elusive and have more of a burst, since he doesn't seem to break through the line all that often for lengthy runs, his speed and elusiveness/burst seems somewhat negated, IMO. I'm not necessarily criticizing Jones in this post, but just simply stating this as an observation. Barber appears to run with more power and on a more consistent basis, and I imagine if Barber had even just a little more speed than what he's shown, Parcells would have him as the starter more often than not. Again, that's just IMO.

OK, Rack outside of the already discredited he was not as good as 2004 showed, why has JJ had problems this year. I doubt you will have any new insight.

Im sorry guys but julius jones hasn't gotten bad overnight.

Its evident that parcells changed his style of play from when he was dynamic making guys miss.

He then started telling julius to stop dancing and just to take 1 yard instead of potentially losing 3.

Julius has had 200 yard games and came through in crunch time on numerous occasions, people are crazy by thinking that marion barber is better than jones.

Marion is a great breath of fresh air when he is in the game, but we also know that julius is great when he gets a workload. he has ran over 100 yards when he's gotten over 20 carries you cant spot handoff these running backs.

2 carries here 2carries there he'll never get into rythem.

MB3 is good but he'll never be a great fulltime back imo, and he is not capable of hitting 200 yard games like julius or even a 150+ as much as julius has.

We're 8-4, the offense is rolling, and you guys find a way to complain about something. Rejoice that we are being mentioned as a team with a possible 1st round bye for the first time in almost 10 years. Rejoice that we have a great young QB.

No, instead, let's sit here and ***** about a running game that is WORKING, and try and find something wrong with it.
