on ESPN site, says the plan was to draft Ogbah and then trade back into the second for Smith. If that's the case I'm glad it worked out the way it did

I think we wanted Smith a little later in the second, but couldn't get the trade down done, so we just took him.

Valuewise, it's hard to peg him. Some are saying Dallas could have gotten him later, but it is impossible to tell when he would have gone because he's such a highly rated prospect.

Should have followed their plan then and taken Spence or Jack, and trade up to get Smith.

That would have been a great D haul. Still like Smith pick but losing out on Collins would not have hurt me one bit.

Im not, should have taken Spence.

My initial reaction was it was a gamble with a huge payoff - but why not trade back ten picks or so if you were going to take Jaylon Smith?

I'd much, much rather have Spence and Smith than Smith, Collins and a later round pick. But who knows what other teams (besides NE) were targeting Jaylon Smith, Dallas likely just felt like they should take the same route and take Smith at 34.

So Rogah would have loved the pick?

He would've gone in the second to NE if still there according to Adam Schefter.

Its absolutely crazy to read some of the comments here about the Smith pick. People saying that it was a bad pick and that they wouldn't have taken him until the 4th round. Smith was NEVER, NEVER getting past the 2nd round. Too many teams had multiple picks in that round to let a talent like Smith slide by while they selected lesser players.

I knew NE would take him. I also strongly suspect that Tennessee with 3 picks in the 2nd between 33-46 would have used one on Smith.

You can argue that Smith went a tad high but if he was the guy Dallas targeted they probably couldn't have moved down more than 5 or so spots. At that point moving simply wasn't worth the chance of missing out on the guy you wanted so just take him at #34 and call it a day.

Who's to say the Cowboys didn't try to trade back? Once again, it takes two teams agreeing to terms to trade. Just because one team wants or desires another teams spot doesn't mean it's going to happen or even be worthwhile.

We throw around the term "trade down" here like it a foregone conclusion that a team can do it whenever they want. Clearly, that is not reality.

For some reason Spence just looked small on film rushing the QB. Spence probably a good fit for a 3-4 defense as a LB

He is small.

I've mentioned it before, but it's worth mentioning again... Dez Bryant is a more lengthy player than Spence.

I think he was probably off their board -- unless you guys have heard otherwise it doesn't seem like they'd take another drug risk in the 2nd round.

That said, I heard that's not even the biggest problem that Cowboys brass had. There were rumors that he didn't seem 'genuine' about loving football.

As quick as they turned in that card, it seems like they really wanted Smith. The pick shocked me... I just hope this is one of those rare times our 2nd rounder pans out.
