It appears that no jounalist, talking head, or any other person who comments on this team in any way other than high praise has a chance with the fans.

Every one of them is vilified for having the gumption to say anything even remotely negative about the team.

Sensitive has a new definition.

There really is no media outlet anymore that is safe from fan hatred. Doesn't matter what team it is, all media who don't suckle from the team teet are targets.

Not that it is important.

But this is so subjective at this stage of the season.

But history suggests the "chicken littles" and "negative Nancy's' have pretty much called it over the last few years on our success.

The cynic in me agrees with you but the optimistic homer would like you to shut up.

JJT's right. The team looks like undisciplined crap going into the final game of pre-season. Get used to it because clearly Wade is going to coach in fear of his job every single game. As he should, because the depth on this team is appallingly bad. That's on him.

Next, you don't give up 31 points to a very bad Oakland team. You don't lose to a very bad SF team at home, even if you play the second half with third team backups. And 10 points by the first team offense in two quarters in two games against two very bad teams, is not going to win many games in the NFC East, especially when you continually leave points on the field because of penalties.

This team is like a bowl of jello. Look's great, tastes great, then it melts.

Frankly, each and every one of those players should be playing for their job and fighting to win every game, including preseason, after the debacle in Philly. I'm not seeing that at all. The lack of cohesion and consistency in these first three preseason games is very telling and disturbing.

That's a major concern for me going into the first game.

What part of the real facts don't some of you understand, JJT's article is dead on and some of you continue to go through life about the cowboys with either your head firmly planted in the sand or up your own ***... Dallas have done some good things in the offseason and in the pregames, but the same mistakes and penalties continue to plague this team, and until it's corrected, this team as JJT points out will continue to not live up to it's expectations or it's ability with the talent it has..

What's the point of being a fan if all one is going to do is anticipate losing it all at the end of the year?

The point here, is he was clearly wrong on some basic facts. It was sloppy and sensationalized (like always), and that's what people get tired of. He is an alarmist simply for the sake of having people talk about him, much like we are doing now.

In the second quarter, Romo had a clear running lane to end zone on third-and-goal from the San Francisco 9,
This is clearly wrong, there was a safety about 2 yards deep in the endzone who would have had a clear shot at Romo before he reached the goal line. Tony saw him and that is why he threw the ball to Crayton, I seriously doubt Tony would have gotten any closer than Patrick did. And Romo would have set himself up for a shot which just isn't smart pre-season football.

Tony made the right decision on that play, hey SF played pretty good defense last night.

I love how people expect perfection in preseason. This team will survive in the regular season and I don't think you'll see as many penalties.

Crayton gained only seven yards, forcing Dallas to settle for a field goal. (Yeah arse wipe, preseason is the perfect time for your starting QB to go all out and try to scramble into the endzone from 9 yds out)

The replay clearly shows a 49er defender standing at the goal line watching Romo before he threw the pass. If Romo decides to run, there would have been a collision at about the 3-year-line. He was wise to throw it, especially in a preseason game.

I will admit I haven't seen the game yet. I will watch it when it is replayed on NFLN later today but I did follow the game a little bit with DC.com's live game updates. Derrecik Eagleton said the same thing JJT said, that Romo had a clear path to the endzone.

and then right after he said it, they watched the replay and concluded he dumped the ball off because of what Chief said

its highly unlikely he would have scored unless he would have just run over the guy, and doing something like that in a menaingless preseason game would have been stupid

He had a path but it wasn't clear. He may have gotten in but it wasn't a sure thing at all. I'm glad he didn't take the hit. It's preseason and not needed...

OK. I gotcha. I will watch the game later. I believe it is at 4pm. I personally don't think the things JJT said were that off, if the Cowboys played how they have normally played in years past. Whether it was Davis or Proctor who got called for holding doesn't matter much to me. Fact is We commit too many penalties at crucial times.

Yeah, i put that in the other forum deal. Heck he probaly could have ran, pump faked and avoided the guy, or got leveled at the 3. He took the right option for a game in August.

well from what i watched last night i do not see this team winning no more then nine game again. the penalties and lack of focus in key situations of games will beat us again in december. this team looks no different then the last three years under wade. i know it is only preseason but i do not think i see a playoff team right now.

All things being even, they have a 96.9 percent chance of being right. That's not difficult.

Nor, I imagine, is it much fun.

Cowboys turn in ragged performance

The Cowboys turned in a ragged performance Saturday night, which should not be confused with raggedy.

Here's the difference: Ragged teams commit penalties, make mental mistakes and turn the ball over, but still do just enough good things to keep the game close - even if they eventually lose like the Cowboys did.

The problem is their performance leaves you wanting more whatever the outcome.
If you need an example of a raggedy performance, think about the debacle in Philly to end last season.

Got it?

The third preseason game is supposed to be the dress rehearsal, the game where the starters play three quarters and the team tries to put on its best performance because the first-string players won't play much in the fourth preseason game next week against Minnesota.

Yes, the starters led 10-3 at halftime. Yes, Felix Jones turned in his usual jaw-dropping moment, nearly bolting more than 90 yards for a touchdown. Yes, the Cowboys had one terrific scoring drive of 94 yards on 14 plays, which has become their norm in the preseason.

But their uneven overall performance should leave Wade Phillips feeling uncomfortable heading into the regular season. This team is still making the same types of mistakes that have ruined its season the past few years.

The penalties must drive Phillips crazy.

He's attempted to address the issue in the off-season by discussing them with the team and sitting offending players for a play during training camp. Obviously, that's unrealistic in the regular season.

All he can do is hope his players exercise more discipline. Thus far, it hasn't happened.

A holding penalty on Leonard Davis in the first quarter negated an apparent 49-yard field by Nick Folk that would've given the Cowboys a 3-0 lead on their first series of the game. (Except it was on Proctor, who wont be here any more)

Instead, the Cowboys punted.

In the second quarter, on third-and-goal from the San Francisco 4, Marc Colombo committed a false start to make it third-and-goal from the nine. That's a huge mistake because it takes away any threat of the run, while making it a much more difficult conversion.

You shouldn't be surprised the drive ended with a field goal. Again, that's the type of mistake that can be costly in the regular season.

Tony Romo, like the team, was ragged. He led Dallas to only one touchdown in four possessions, which is hardly the way you want to storm into the season. (he threw one poor pass all night)

He threw his first interception of the preseason on second-and-eight from the San Francisco 35. Romo, hit as he threw, forced the ball deep to well-covered Kevin Ogletree and safety Mark Roman easily intercepted the pass. (Hey JJT, go back and look at the tape. Ogletree wasnt well covered, in fact he had his guy beat for a TD, it was only picked because Romo had some pressure and underthrew to the inside)

In the second quarter, Romo had a clear running lane to end zone on third-and-goal from the San Francisco 9, but tossed a pass to Patrick Crayton just before he crossed the line of scrimmage. Crayton gained only seven yards, forcing Dallas to settle for a field goal. (Yeah arse wipe, preseason is the perfect time for your starting QB to go all out and try to scramble into the endzone from 9 yds out)

Did I mention that drive began at the San Francisco 9 after a 43-yard punt return by Terence Newman? The Cowboys must score a touchdown in that situation.

Feel free to blow off the litany of mistakes, if you choose, because it's just preseason game. (not blowing them off, but also not as concerned when you acknowledge that the guys making the most, and worst mistakes wont be here for the games that count)

If the coaches and players take a similar attitude - you should hope they don't - it will cause the Cowboys to end this season the same way the did last year, trudging off the field, their heads bowed, because they didn't make the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

This team has talent, no doubt. That's never the question with this collection of players.

But this team isn't nearly good enough to consistently make mistakes, mental or physical, and earn a trip to the playoffs, especially in the NFC East.

The players and coaches must accept that.

This team must play its best football every week to accomplish its goals. In the big picture, this preseason game has no affect on the Cowboys' season, but it's never too early for this team to establish good habits.

This guy is pure garbage and a disgrace to Dallas Media....

Felix missed a block and rushed Romo on the pick. Olgletree was wide open to the outside. It's an easy TD if he gets time. Romo probably should have ate the ball.

Also, there was a guy waiting at the goalline to drill Romo if he runs on that one play. It's just preseason, so save the collision for the real season. There was no need to get hurt diving for the endzone there. If it's the Giants or Eagles or Commanders in a real game, then yeah, go for the endzone with your feet.

JJT doesn't mention the biggest penalty of the game for Dallas.

It was Colombo and Davis false starting before the 49 yarder was negated.

That was a sure TD for Dallas that was negated buy the stupid penalty, imo.

If you clean that up, that is two long TD drives for Dallas.

The defense looked very good, and special teams looked much better covering kicks.

Two really good punt returns, too.

One by my guy #41.

Newman is going to make some teams pay this year.
