Very interesting...
Steve Jobs’s secret legacy: Dying Apple boss left plans for four years of new products
By David Gardner In Los Angeles Ted Thornhill
  • Blueprints for new iPod, iPad, iPhone and MacBooks in place
  • Permission for futuristic new Apple headquarters secured by Jobs in June
Despite knowing he was dying, Steve Jobs worked for more than a year on the products that he believed would safeguard the company's future.

It was also revealed today that Jobs fought hard to get plans approved for a spaceship-style company headquarters in California.

It will be big enough to hold 12,000 employees in a park-like setting near the existing base in Cupertino. He appeared at a town council meeting in June to plead for the planning go ahead.

Jobs had a part-time job working for Hewlett Packard at the site when he was 13 and he ensured Apple bought the land when it became available.

He has also been overseeing the development of the delayed iCloud project, which will allow Apple users to store their music, photos and other documents remotely and masterminding updated versions of the iPod, iPad, iPhone and MacBooks, ensuring at least four years’ worth of products are in the pipeline, according to Apple sources.

He'll probably release more ideas after he's dead than he did alive, like Tupac.

I think that speaks volumes of his dedication to his vision and his company. When he knew he was dying he could have easily mailed it in, decided he was going to kick back or travel the world, take care of his bucket list, and all of that.

But he worked tirelessly even when the chips weren't just down, they were gone.

Pretty impressive display of leadership, in my opinion.

No, what speaks dedication is the fact that he worked his *** off up until basically 30 days before his body completely gave out on him.

I'm wearing a black Turtleneck in remembrance of the man. A true genius. He will be missed. Having said that, the revelation that his ideas are still on stream is Apple's way of protecting themselves. Make no mistake, his leadership will be sorely missed.

He lived each day like it was his last. Makes me want to do more today. Think outside the box.

I have no earthly idea how you can plan 4 years out when the hardware that stuff will run on isn't even being developed.

This just seems to scream "stick to Apple" cuz Steve took care of us for the next 4 years.

It doesn't make any sense at all and I would be highly suspect about Apple claiming Steve can see the future.

There are a bazillion hardware scenarios and patent scenarios involved. It's mind boggling.

He could have written down input on the approach to developing something but full on details w/o knowing what even the next 2 years will bring, seems to be an overreach.

Blueprints? BS!!

You make some good points, but I think Jobs actually proved he could predict the future relatively well by some of his products. He created markets his entire life...

Mac, iPod and iPhone. All revolutionary, all unique, all best sellers...

He had remarkably good vision given his track record...

As far as "blueprints" they likely DO have them. New products are developed years in advance. 2012 cars were developed 3-4 years ago. Same with computers and other electronic devices.

It'll be interesting to see. Apple has a lot of pressure on them now as the Android market develops...

Technology moves to fast for that. Jobs may have had an idea that he molded as it was being developed and changes where made as technology moved forward before that idea turned into a completed product.

If he wrote down something, it couldn't have been anything more than a generic idea. (I'm talking for four years down the road) When I say that, I'm talking about "an iPad that takes pictures and plays games". He could in no way predict what type of technology would be in four years from now. Or who the economics of it would work out. I'm talking purchasing then selling and producing the margin he expects.

Apple already knows where it wants technology to go. It’s just a matter of getting people to move with it. Apple is always the first to do something head scratching...example, like eliminating the floppy drive years ago. Those are now extinct. Icloud comes out...ahh, they already saw a day without discs.

Jobs was a:

1. Futurist
2. Visionary

He was more than capable of reading the past and current patterns and trends in the world today.

He was more than capable to plan ahead thinking "exponentially".

Those two things are how he will STILL be "in the now" 3-4 years from now without even being here.

People like jobs dont think in today "conventional" terms. Outside the box for lack of a better phrase.

Does Apple make cpu and digital mem chips and other integrated circuits? Do you even understand what we are discussing?

I say no you don't. :D

So cloud services (iCloud) is an apple product? REALLY? :laugh2: :laugh2: I have been running cloud infrasture for years. I never once got a call from Apple or Steve and I am a bit upset now after learning this fact.

Rediculous and you are letting your blind Apple homerism confuse you to how product development is really done.

I will have my company tell you anything under the sun in order to keep you coming back. THAT IS BUSINESS!

Yeah im a fortune teller, can't you tell?

Ridiculous says who, you?

Read up on the futurists/scientists of the world that have seen many of the things that you see today over 30 years ago.

FYI - I am Droid guy.
Droid X, Droid Tablet.

But you cannot deny how good Jobs was.

So you are wrong 2x.

wrong 2x? What does that even mean? I said Jobs was an innovator but he cannot put down a blueprint of future devices. That is silly to even believe that he can. He can give you a summary of his vision of what the thing maybe could/should do, but to argue that he has blueprints and highlevel design of them is completely untrue. How could he? Does he have the future A7 layout ready to roll? Maybe they don't even go w/ ARM anymore for CPU. Damn you Jobs, your blueprint said A10 but there is no A8. There might be something comparible being made by Samsung again but its not as fast as you told us from 2011. :(

You know what..nevermind..I dont have time to sit here and explain to you how dependant Apple is on the IC mgfrs of the world.

Steve knows all the tech they will break through on? That is crazy talk.

This is a silly argument.

Usually he just trolls for reactions. The key is not to give them to him.

You can put down a blueprint for future devices in a lot of ways. Of course, in 4 years there may be some technological advancements. I think what they are saying is he left not just 4 years of plans, but also plans to go by in the near future.
