I see how things get out of hand with these shows, and to think the Dallas Cowboys would put on a display of non talent such as these guys, is really disheartening to me as a long time fan of the game and the Cowboy organization.
For Jerry Jones to guarantee a roster spot for any of these guys competing is even more disheartening .
They all have a sob story of why they weren't drafted, and lets face facts here, if they had half the talent needed to play in the NFL, they would be here now.
This is one show I refuse to watch, it's just not a good thing for the already overly scrutinized saga of this franchise.

I don't see a major distraction. If the reality show winner earns a roster spot it would only be because he was exceptional and outcompeted players with more experience or skills.
Sometimes talented athletes detour or hit misfortune in life but get it together again or recover. We have seen undrafted free agents make it even to pro-bowls from time to time.
Embarrassment? It all depends on how you look at it. Sure, opposing fans and trolls will likely use the show as ammunition against us, but do we really care what they think? No!JoeyBones31;2787158 said:No doubt I do concur, but these guys just seem to be like camp fodder, or blocking/tackling dummies, no pun intended.
It does have some ties to the franchise though , I'm afraid, because it was with Jerry's permission , that Irvin has guaranteed that 80Th roster spot.
I'm not contending it will be a distraction to the organization, but more of an embarrassment in terms of this once proud and viable organization.

Every team in the league usually takes a weekend to determine what this show is taking a month to do. So if anything, the Cowboys are being alot more thorough in their research behind the 80th man. And beyond that, there are no guarantees that this guy will make the 53 man roster. But what is guaranteed is whoever the winner is, he likely will be in much better physical and mental shape to take a spot on the roster then someone the Cowboys signed off the street.
That aside, as I mentioned in another thread, I'm not really impressed with any of these guy's save maybe Holley, and he would be hard pressed to beat out Stanback for a spot. So, take this for what it is. It's a small dose of football to get us fanatic's through until the season begins.

The Landry era, would never allow anything this preposterous to take place, or advanced scouting dept was one of the strong suits of this proud franchise, this to me, just makes it seem like a three ring circus, first with Adam Jones debacle, and the "worm" in the locker-room, and the in fighting, and all the Ed Werder scrutiny of T.O. , I just think this team needs a break from the spotlight, and get back to basics, "old school" football, the same theory that helped this team win 5 rings and trophies.
We play in Texas, not in Hollywood California, I don't want this team to be remembered like the Raiders with that circus atmosphere there with Al Davis showing his age, with his press conferences and all the hoopla involved around the release of Lane Kiffen.
Fly under the radar, and hard work, dedication, advanced reputable scouting departments will find that diamond in the rough, not reality shows.
I understand it's related to Dallas Cowboy football, but not really football.
That's just my opinion, it's not a knock on your preference or your feelings, just my own personal beliefs on how chemistry, comradery and team unity is built from the ground up, this team has lacked that for a very long time, time to change the face of the Dallas Cowboys, old school style and get back to prominence.

Anyone else remember this?

I respect your opinion on this; but I still disagree. I honestly don't put this in the same category as I would Hard Knocks, the player whose initials shall go unnamed, and PacmakeitrainMan (which is probably the most befitting moniker, considering he has to be slightly retarted to get in a fight on Pro vs. Joes).JoeyBones31;2787381 said:One thing I've learned in the 45years of being a football player first, then a coach, and finally a fan is, when a franchise brings attention to themselves with "reality shows" rather than just going out with all the picks that were stockpiled in this years draft, and do the research that builds champions it is an embarrassment to me as a long , long time fan.

I bet the Cowboys would be the ones putting on the show and it would be for all positions just like the old open tryouts. Tex would promote it, Brandt would have already scoured the country looking for players to bring to the show, and Landry would have his coaches running the players through the drills.
Tex would have been all over this reality show.
