Yeah, I knew this was coming. His numbers are dropping and his paycheck was increasing. They've been talking about this for a few weeks now.

Supposedly he asked for the release because he wanted to see what his value was. Of course, it could just be like quitting before your boss had the chance to fire you. Anyway, wouldn't be surprised to see him back in New Orleans, they love him there.

Get him he is a PRO BOWL reciever. Get him now

SOS - shiney object syndrome.

he WAS a pro bowl receiver. unless something happen to glenn or TO, where would he play? #3? would you want to tell glenn he's #3 now? TO #2? horn #3?

we don't need a "yesterdays hero" - we've got 2 of our own. let's keep the two we have and do something odd and develop our own WR's we have around now.

only reason he wasn't this year was because he was hurt.

Oops, just put it in another thread, but I think this guy is total money and very underrated. Only reason he never got more press is because he was stuck in New Orleans when they stunk, but he's tough, gutty, and clutch. Plus, he seemed to mature a lot after Katrina. IMO of course.

today by the saints

But tough and shows signs of greatness.
However, I don't get the Saints' willingness to let him go. The Saints get nothing. Horn gets to play the market. Not like they have a wealth of receivers. They have Terrance Cooper and the Jamal guy.

There must be an underlying reason, because NFL teams are not that accommodating re players seeking better market value.

And what's your excuse for the year before that?

Dude is 35, he's not the player he was in 2000. And like iceberg was basically alluding to, there's no room for him here.

They have Marques Colston who was one of the best all around WR's this year and Deverey Henderson who has been solid as well as Copper. Don't forget there's all of FA and the draft to fill his spot.

Many would have the gut reaction to git him and git him quick. As I mentioned in my wise, accurate and informative post further down, there has got to be a reason why the Saints were so accommodating to let him test the market.
He is good and tough, but may be on the descent careerwise.

I actually agree with this somewhat.

This season, or this and next, will be gibbs' last seasons here. They will probably try and make one last push at a postseason run while he is here. After he is gone, I wouldn't be totally opposed to rebuilding this franchise. We have one of the oldest teams in the league right now. This is going to be inevitable at some point. I would much rather them do it sooner then later.

In all honesty, I think a good purge would be the best thing for the Skins. There are obviously ramifications that make it impossible to do it over the span of one or two seasons (mainly salary cap escalators), but I think it would give the Skins faithful atleast a glimmer of hope that at some point there will actually be a vision in DC. The mindless droning through FA EVERY year scooping up free agent after free agent and watching yet another draft pick disappear for a player that the trading team is more than willing to give up, only to find out that you've won the FA game and lost another season has got to be frustrating for any fan. The paper lion game has surely gotten old to even the most dedicated of the Commanders faithful.

They obviously can't make a team wide fire-sale and just start cutting guys left and right, but there are guys on that team that either have no long term future (Springs) or have completely stayed beyond their usefulness (Brunell). Like you said SkinsnGibbs, the Skins are becoming one of the oldest teams in the league. And, that's not the worst thing in the world as long as those older players are providing effective leadership. Now, I might be way off-base (it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility)but, I don't see ANY real leadership on the Commanders football team (least of all from the players). It just seemed when I watched them (which I'll admit wasn't religiously) that the wholeteam was ina bit of a daze. Gibbs seemed aloof in post game PCs and players didn't seem to have any answers (or any opinions for that matter. None that they voiced atleast).

People talk about Jerry being an idiot ownerand his own gaffes in personell decisions, but he hasn't even scartched the surface of the level of stupidity that Daniel Snyder and his group of yes men have amassed over the last 6-7 years. Not even close. There is one thing that youhave to give Snyder credit for. The guy wants to win. But like any spoiled child, he wants what he wants NOW. He's willing to buy it, but he's not willing to take the time to build it. Until he loses that mentality, the Skins will contiually fall short. Sure they might make some noise in the play-offs once every couple of years, but they'll never really amass a championship team with cast-offs and yearly overturn.

The Skins need a change in culture. I know because it's exactly what Dallas needed when Parcells came to town. We can all say what we wish about this player being used wrong and that scheme not working when it comes to Parcells, but the one thing that is undeniable is the change of the state of mind that this ENTIRE organization underwent during his tenure. "Get your expectations up because that's where mine are!" The entire organization took on that mentality. And, though Parcells fell woefully short of what he came here to accomplish (by his own standards), he was very successful in building a team that was built to compete now and into the future, leaving a winners expectations alive and well. He taught Jerry Jones and his staff how to assemble talent and keep an eye toward the future at all times. For Snyder the future is always now, and until he learns how to earn and build (rather than buy) in the NFL the Skins and their fans will live a miserable existence littered with flickers of hope and shattered expectations.

yea - what he spelled correctly!!!

in all i'm not surprised one bit they released him. if we didn't have TO or Glenn, i'd be in favor of at least checking it out. but given we're set at WR and maybe a solid draft pick to continue the building of the position youth wise, i think we're fine. we just don't need to add up the age of our top 3 WR's and break 100.
