Do we know for certain there were less injuries and less severe injuries in the old days? How good were the records of injuries at that time? It seems to me that there aren't necessarily more concussions nowadays, rather head injuries are taken more seriously. I bet a lot of injuries in the old days went under reported or not diagnosed to today's standards.

That's an excellent point. There may very well be no significant increase in these types of injuries these days, only today we are far more knowledgeable about the whole thing - not to mention it gets reported on 24/7 in today's media as opposed to the 2 minutes (if you're lucky) on the evening news back then.
