Ok, we trade with Atlanta or Miami trading down, with swapping 2nd rounders and picking up a 4th in exchange.

We also trade with a team trading away Greg Ellis for a 3rd or 4th rounder. I will go with a 4th rounder in the deal now for this mock draft.

With the 2nd pick trading down the Cowboys take Duke Robinson or Eric Wood (Wood can play OG too).

With the 3rd rounder that the cowboys have the Cowboys take Patrick Chung S. If they don’t take Chung, they trade down again, swapping picks in 3rd round and taking Dorell Scott DT NT.

With the Cowboys 4th rounder the Cowboys take Rhett Bomar QB. With the 4th rounder in trade for Greg Ellis the Cowboys take Jason Williams LB, he is just too good to pass up. With the 4th rouder the Cowboys acquired in trading down in 2nd round the Cowboys take Captain Munnerlyn, whom is just too good to pass up. With the other 4th rounder the Cowboys take Jason Watkins OT.

In the 5th round, the Cowboys take Sammie Hill, other 5th rounder the Cowboys take Johnny Knox, and the compenstation pick the Cowboys take Alex Boone ( I know he has had alcohol problems, but he is a huge dominating offensive tackle, so you take the best player left on the board).

In the 6th round, the Cowboys take Quan Cosby, yeah I know 2 wrs back to back, but you take the best player available on the board. Now, right here is where the Cowboys trade that 6th spot to move down, swap with a team and pick back up the 5th rounder they lost in 2010 for OG Holland. With 6th compensation pick the Cowboys take Louis Vasquez OG, again take best player on the board.

Again with the top pick at top of 7th round, the cowboys might trade down just alittle and pick up a 6th rounder for 2010. So in concluding the draft the Cowboys take Roy Miller DT NT from Texas.

2nd rounder Duke Robinson or Eric Wood
3rd rounder Patrick Chung S
4th Rhett Bomar QB
4th Jason Williams LB
4th Captain Munnerlyn CB
4th Jason Watkins OT
5th Sammie Hill DT NT
5th Johnny Knox WR
5th compensation pick Alex Boone OT
6th Quan Cosby WR (he falls due to age)
6th compensation pick Louis Vasquez OG he falls due to age & being in passing offense
7th Roy Miller DT NT

Solid enough draft, but I think we're dreaming if we could get higher than a 5th round pick for a guy who is going to be 34 years old this season.

11 picks in the draft, including two 4th round draft choices ( 1 of them being the first pick in the round ) why in heavens would we want to trade down and get more picks ?

and FOUR 4th round picks ?

Hell, I don't see the Cowboys keeping both of the 4th rounders they have. That 1st pick in the 4th round could very well turn into a 3rd round in the '10 draft, maybe even a 2nd round pick. As a matter of fact, I can see them doing that with the 3rd round pick too. Move down from the 5th spot in the 3rd round, while picking up another 3rd or 4th in '10.

No way the Cowboys are drafting more than 7 players in this draft. There's simply no room for them.

Well, I first thought like you did some in the draft, go for quality players over quanity. But the strenght of this draft after the first round to mid 2nd round is the mid 2nd round to the top of the 5th round. The 49ers did this way back in their hey day when they loaded up in the draft The 49ers traded down out of the first round,, loaded up in the 2nd to 4th round.

Thats what we should do, load up from 2nd round to mid 5th round.

In the greg ellis trade, we might package another player with ellis, kinda like we did with miami last year, when we traded fasano TE and a linebacker, we got a 4th for him.

still maintain that where ever the first pick falls it will be somebody D front seven. It would only O-Line if a LT falls. Dont get me wrong I like Wood and he could play multiple positions but I cant see them taking him that high. Two more things Jerry wont trade down. It will take every fiber in his being not to trade up, he wont want six hours on draft day to pass with out being interviewed. I think he likes TV cameras more than money. The other thing, please no Alex Boone even low rounds. Look three years into the future he wont be in the NFL, its a lock.

Yea, but the same problem still exists: more picks than room.

This team is going to be drafting players to develop and provide depth, not to start, which means there's a limited number of openings on the roster. There's no way they're going to renew over 20% of their current roster ( which is what you're suggesting with 12 picks ) with rookie players, particularly rookie players picked with late picks in a weak draft. They'd be just throwing picks away for the sake of bringing someone to camp for a couple of months.

While I agree in one sense I disagree with some of the more pronounced proclamations.

Dallas WILL draft more than 7 players.
And they have room for them.

They will probably not draft 11 however.

I do believe they like 4th round picks a good deal tho. They have had luck with them recently and they like the cost of them.

I can easily see them shipping off 6th and 7th round picks for next to nothing next year or including them in small trades up but I do think Dallas likes the early 2nd day of the draft overall. And I can see that trade down occurring because if the draft falls as some mocks suggest Dallas may very well have a pool of 5 or 6 players all graded out exactly the same sitting there. And when they they do they try to trade down.

The one area where I wholeheartedly disagree with this mock in is Dallas will not trade Greg Ellis and then not draft an OLB. In fact I suspect Ellis moves as part of a trade to draft an OLB immediately or after they have added an OLB the previous pick.

This team is absent about 2 safeties right now, could use a serious churn at 2 OLB spots, needs 2 ILB spots, could churn at least 1 OL and probably 2 or 3, and definitely can use a 3rd QB. There is also a 3rd TE or 2nd FB position and a 4th/5th WR spot to be won.

I could easily see a number of guys not being with the team out of camp.
