ATLANTA (AP)—The Atlanta Falcons released quarterback Joey Harrington on Wednesday, leaving the team with only two quarterbacks as it prepares to address the position in the NFL draft.

The Falcons also cut veteran quarterback Byron Leftwich last month.

The release of Harrington may increase the chances the team will take a quarterback, perhaps Matt Ryan, with the No. 3 overall selection in the draft.

Ryan, from Boston College, is widely considered the top quarterback in the draft....

What happens if the Dolphins draft Ryan? Do they reach and grab Brohm, Flacco or Henne? They go with Redman? Who else is even available?

I wouldn't be shocked. I've thought for a couple months now that Ryan was probably their main target.

If Ryan is gone, they might become players to move back up into late 1 for a QB. They have 2 seconds.

You're probably right. They may even just sit where they are in the 2nd and take a QB then since no other QB is being projected for the 1st round other than Ryan right now.

My belief is that Parcells will schnooker the Falcons into trading up to #1 to get Ryan with faked interest.

The Falcons probably view him as the 'anti-Vick' and a new fresh start for the franchise and I think they're locked into taking him.

That's my belief anyway.

If memory serves, wasn't there a rumor of the Cowboys being interested in Harrington last year?

Wonder if that's still - or ever was - true?

I remember that and sadly Johnson is still a better choice.

Miami has shown strong interest in Ryan. With the trade for Ferguson, I doubt they take Dorsey or Ellis. If they don't take Matt Ryan, I think they take Vernon Gholston. Some have them taking Chris Long, but I don't see that. Gholston is a better choice for his 3-4 defense. The only Long I could see them take is Jake Long, but I doubt it.

Ryan or Gholston if they don't trade out. Mark it.

I see Miami trading down to #3 and taking Jake Long. I think he would improve their offensive line and provide a toughness they seem to lack. Parcells could then use Ronnie Brown and a power running game until the rest of his offense gets built.

If ATL does go QB, they are going to put a lot of pressure on him to basically step in and be the starter unless they can find someone else, but I'm not sure that anyone else is available as a FA that would be able to start.

Any ideas who that could be?

I got news for ya, the Falcons are going to do whatever they are going to do regardless if Harrington is on the roster.

They have Redman and Shockley still. I'd guess they let those two battle it out and then slowly work in Ryan. They were really big on Shockley until he got injured last year.

That was the question I asked...but then again Beck wasn't a BP selection so I could see him going QB again.

It doesn't make sense unless he was due some type of roster bonus or something which i doubt so to cut joey harrington so early and basically say that Matt Ryan is our man is kind of foolish considering that the Dolphins could go QB ahead of them.

Right now he's not really projected in the first, although I think it's certainly possible he goes.

I'm fairly certain it was a cap move, but I don't think his deal was that ridiculous anyway. For a team that just gave Turner a truck load to turn around and cheap out at QB doesn't make much sense. At the very least he's a backup to the new guy you brought in.

Every year I get shocked and awed watching the draft and I don't expect this year to be any different. I beleive it will happen to some of you this year. I think teams like Chicago, Buffalo, Houston, and Baltimore could go after Brohm.
