I heard good things and thought we might have a find. Plus, he got a decent int...

But then I kept seeing him being targetted, against third stringers, and giving up quite a few catches. I'm seeing now why he is behind Jones and Reeves still, and probably even Ball. He looked good and almost made a great play on a great pass.

In short, I think Joey Thomas is still fighting uphill to make this team. He put himself on the radar, but still lacks consistency, like the coaches said. He got a big play but gave up quite a few. Indy kept throwing at him for a reason.

He made a nice play on the ball on the INT.

I hope Newman was taking notes

I have to agree. I was expecting a lot tighter coverage from Thomas. He was in the area to make the tackle but he did not have the coverage to prevent the completion...That Won't Do.

I do hope that is not a serious comment. That ball was so underthrown that had Thomas had tight coverage he might not have gotten to it (ok exageration but...). It is silly to think that Thomas could teach Newman anything.

You are right.

The smiley was too subtle.

I thought Thomas played pretty well but we'll see the rest of the preseason. I'd expect him to play off a bit right now, nothing gets you noticed more than getting called for a penalty or giving up a long pass. Now that he has an INT under his belt and no big plays allowed he can start tightening up the coverage a bit.

The way I saw it, their younger QBs kept targeting that #15 guy, seemingly because he was their best scrub receiver and because they don't do a good job of checking down. Just so happened Thomas was in coverage over there. I think he did a fine job, considering.

That said, we didn't get to see much of anything out of Ball or Brown.

I did consider that Parchy--they were targeting 15...but there were a couple other catches on him.

I guess we'll see, but not as good as I was hoping

#15 was Craphonso Thorpe.

I thought Thomas played pretty decent. He did contest quite a few balls and played hard.

Wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible. I also agree that he wasn't targeted but the QB just kept going there because he felt comfortable. I don't think you target 3rd stringers..

Thomas was not being "tageted" lol.

He was simply coering the WR who their 3rd string QB was comfortable in throwing too.

The "weak" CBs are not being picked on in a pre-season game.

I would like to have seen him knock down some of those balls that he "contested". I will give you that he did seem to be playing hard...just not effectively.

You know what, I agree with you. "Targeted" or not, they completed quite a few passes on him.

Ball gave up a TD, but he really had it played textbook and it took a perfect pass in the perfect spot to complete that one on him.

It's just one game... I look forward to seeing more of our backup CBs this preseason. At least one of those guys is probably going to have to play in real games at some point.

Exactly. That TD pass on Ball, there wasn't much he could have done on that. I forgot to pay him much attention to him outside of that play....how did he do overall, would you say?

Like david said, I don't think they ever threw at him except for that one play. I did see him getting blocked pretty well downfield when the QB ran for a good gain on his side. Guess that's part of being so skinny. :)

I hope they throw at him more next game. I just have a feeling he might be one of those scrappy, smart players... If he can keep up athletically.
