John Elway Almost A Cowboy!

well best i remember about joe montana, it was landry, landry thought he could get joe montana in the 3rd round, of course, 49ers picked before we did best i remember,

White was every bit as good as Montana in my opinion. As a matter of fact, White played well when he had the chances.

No loss over Montana; but losing Elway hurt. I would have loved seeing Elway in the Blue and Silver for Dallas.

But, we did have Danny, and it really didn't matter at that point.

My first post on Cowboys Zone.

srsly?

White was an above average qb but was not in Montana's class.

I always felt that White could have been the best in the league, but the team he had around him wasn't what Montana had over the next few years.

When he would come in for Staubach, he was never a letdown. As a matter of fact, Staubach got knocked out of one playoff game that wasn't going our way- and White came in and helped us win. I can't remember the game, but I think it was in 77.

I think if the Cowboys of the eighties had the fire of the ones of the 70s, White would have gone down as one of the best ever. That's just my opinion, but I'll never forget the playoff game in Atlanta when White unloaded to bring the Cowboys back with three touch downs to win the game.

Elway wouldn't have saved the Cowboys. Granted, he would have been a serious upgrade over Hogeboom, Pelluer, Collier, et al ... the team surrounding the QB was devoid of talent.

The most Elway would have done was eak out a few mediocre seasons instead of the 3-13 season in 88.

Elway was able to elevate some average teams in Denver because of his ability. He was a natural leader and everyone felt they had a chance to win with Elway in the game. I believe he would have been a fantastic Cowboy.

Thats ok , I'm much happier with the 3 SB's we got with Aikman.

Thank You
 :lombardi:

I just really liked White's ability to make plays. He seemingly never was out of the game.

If it weren't for a defender hanging on to Drew Pearson's jersey for dear life on the the first play of the ensuing kickoff,

"The Catch" would have been simply "a catch".

John Elway meets John Dutton....:laugh1:
